Years ago when i did shoot IDPA I started out with a leather holster meant for non-concealed carry and it took forever to break open the retention strap after the buzzer went off. I eventually went with what most everyone else was using.

The accidental shooting at ERGC during a Speed Steel Challenge match was discussed at the tues meeting.
    Important points
Day had heat index of 100 and this occurred at the end of the match
Failure on the parts of the RO and the shooter.
RO obviously did not determine that the gun was empty.
RO was to the left side of a right handed shooter
Shooter obviously did not unload the gun, point it at berm and pull trigger to confirm it was empty. The gun either was near his holster or was being holstered when he pulled the trigger.

Not clear if magazine was in the gun or not.
Holster was somewhat to rear of the shooter and he with his right hand shot himself in left calf.
Not clear if the gun was actually in the holster when it discharged.
    This was an experienced shooter.
Club safety committee to prepare report and take measures to avoid this happening again.

Important comment was that having the RO do both safety and also rule compliance and time-score keeping needs to be looked at.
