    ???

So... asking about a gun that can kill lots of people is illegal, now?
Is that legally considered a threat or something? Asking about the capability of a tool?

So much for the 1st Amendment.

I would say the guys specific wording is a major concern, hope LE catches up to him and finds out what's rattling around in his brain. Speech is not protected if it is a threat or conspiring to commit a crime. He didn't ask for a gun with a fast cyclic rate or for one with the largest cartridge capacity. If a guy told me what he stated, I wouldn't sell him a damn thing and I'd call the cops and get vehicle and plate info too. Not my job, Boss can fire me!

I completely agree that there isn't a substitute for following your gut.

However, I guess I read the article a different way. I didn't see it worded as he stated he wanted to kill a lot of people, he simply asked about a gun that could. Put another way: it could simply be a gun-ignorant idiot who was genuinely curious. The same type of person who thinks a "double barrel extended magazine clip" is a thing.

It's not illegal to be a jackass or a moron.

Regardless, if it isn't worded as a direct threat, this means we are now in the realm of having to dance around the nuance of how we talk about guns? These are tools and weapons, afterall. If I ask about the ballistics of one load versus another in the same caliber, to compare/contrast the energy dump at distance for tissue damage and cavitation, do I have to specifically relate that to game hunting? What if I'm trying to find the best self-defense ammo concerning terminal performance in a human body to stop a threat? Do I need to specifically state some legalese in order to avoid arrest?

I got it. Like that one judge said about porn: you'll know when you see it. Ok, perhaps the "threatening words" are the same thing.

I just see another slippery slope now in favor of gun-control vs individual rights.

It appears the Alert is canceled since LE made contact with the individual.

I don't know the circumstances that got him and LE together. Guy is former FL Resident now living in Washington DC. Stated he saw "a White Nationalist buying a gun and it pissed him off." and that's why he made the statement. No decision made yet on Charging him.

Will he be another criminal that commits a mass shooting after which everyone blames the cops for droping the ball after he made such statement. I hope not but time will tell. Seems to me the guy is a prime candidate for application of Red Flag Laws he probably supports.

    As I said: a gun-ignorant idiot AND a jackass.

Still not illegal in my eyes. Doesn't mean I agree with that libtard SOB. I just don't appreciate individual liberties being squashed because someone filed a Hurt Feelings Report.

He’s a DC resident that move to FL and then back to DC , I’d bet good money on that being the case. Port StLucie is over run with dumb asses like him . There is no port there it’s just a name that general development corporation came up with 40 or 50 years ago to dupe Yankees in to buying lots out in the middle of nowhere. Surprise ,it’s no longer in the middle of nowhere. But other than the weather it similar to living in a large northern city.

I suppose I should now be careful what I say lest it be interpreted as "scary" or worrisome to the hearer. Feeling a little less like the land of the free and home of the brave? What next? How about:

    Movie Scene:
Press Conference sometime in the future:

Police Chief: "While no crime was committed, we arrested him just to error on the side of caution. What the suspect said was concerning to people overhearing a conversation he was having. A potential threat is off the streets! The legal system can now determine if he is a threat. The city is safer tonight. Remember, our goal is to prevent crime before it occurs."

As noted in the follow up article: his statement was not constructed because he didn't know commonly used firearm terms. It was specifically stated as intended, and those remarks solicited a reaction. Allegedly because his limited coping skills couldn't overcome what he preceived as a White Nationalist buying a gun and responded in anger (it pissed me off). A middle age snowflake that needs timeout in a safe room, maybe with bars.
