Earlier than the 50's. I think the "single line address" (made in usa) changed in the late 40's. Cut down barrel - not originally a snub - S&W barrels were usually long enough to have chambering info, and a locking mechanism for the ejector rod head. I believe these models were referred to a M&P models.
