Some local fisherman Abidjan Africa got a little close to our 835 foot drill ship. It's really funny we we put the spot light on them and the work boat next to gets theirs pointed at them. They start scrambling to get the net up. What can be bad is we have 6 huge thrusters and that net can get caught up in them.

They are just trying to make a living.

Also we caught a nice size Yellow Fin the other day and had some at the midnight meal. It was Excellent!!! Nothing like fresh fish.

    Some pics...

Wow, so how far offshore are you?

You can see land on a good day if you look at the X-Band. If I remember correct I think 15 miles direct line of site. We fly on a helicopter from the Abidjan Airport and it moving about 135 knots and it takes us 20 min to get to the Drill Ship.

I had to solder in a new magnetron not too long ago and then setup the radar.

Ok 16 Miles off shore we are from land. I guessed pretty close. Was better to see actually with the S-Band Radar. All that clutter that looks like a storm on the top is land. Each circle line represents 4 NM so there four so 16 NM out.

Yes the clutter at 7oclock is a nasty storm looking like it's heading our way. You can see much more detail on the weather radar.

Another funny poor fisherman story. We started flaring and well flow testing. So one night they were trying to light the pilot I think they use propane and them fisherman were sorta close again. So the lighting of the pilot is loud and makes a pop pop pop noise probably to them sounds like a .50 BMG. They ducked and took off like we were shooting at them. LOL :) I don't have any video or pics of that happening but here are some pics of the impressive flaring operation. It's really really hot to get close pure oil from the well being burned.

    I took these pics myself...
