Just because, you know, a reporter would never want to appear stupid or biased when covering a story that involves an evil gun.

Tip #3: Have some knowledge of guns, too – the different kinds, and how they work.

“This is the kind of thing that drives the gun owner group crazy, when they think that a reporter is writing about their issue with their guns and doesn’t understand the basic facts about how they work,” Vernick said. For example, Vernick stressed the difference between assault weapons, which are semi-automatic, and machine guns or fully automatic weapons.

I saw a report on channel three about a gun seizure that claimed there were Thompson machine guns. They appear to be semiauto non-nfa Thompson.

Bias media doesn't care about "Tips" to get the Story right. They dont want to get it right, they only want to provide the anti-gun slant in the big picture and bury or blurr key facts in the body of the Story. Its also important to know what obviously missing from the Story: no charges ever filed against the CWP Defender, no CWP or FOID revocation, Gun as evidence returned, Why the charges were dropped against severely injured thug because jurisdictions don't want to be responsible for massive medical bills for those "in custody" nor do they want the medical burden in jail or prison. The Headline fits and promotes an anti-gun agenda, which is as far as many read on the Story. With the Headline as a foundation, they can attach what ever "comments and opinions" they desire to it in order to tie in the spectrum of gun control issues to the biased, narrow, attention grabbing Headline.

Yeah, let's get those tips over to the compulsive 911 dialers who have to call someone 'cause they saw something while we're at it, before we get some guy going hunting killed, because, I just saw a man putting big gun in his car; it looked like an assault rifle or machine gun! I'm terrified. Do something! Help! HELP!!"

These anti-gun bloggers who mislabel themselves as "journalists" don't even care anymore about putting up a front of 'impartiality'.

From that article (I added the bold emphasis):

"For example, people are less likely to support the broad proposition of stricter gun policies, but more likely to support specific policies that have the effect of restricting access to guns, such as requiring background checks for all guns purchased."
-So, there it is in black and white from the horse's ass themselves: universal background checks are INTENDED to restrict access. Not "policies that would keep guns out of the hands of criminals". No, they simply want "restricting access".

"And I have to explain to them that we don’t actually register guns in the United States. Federal law actually prohibits the federal government from registering guns, and then only a handful of states register guns." "Well we don’t even license [all] gun owners in the U.S.,’” he added. “Only about 10 states license gun owners, require a permit to purchase prior to obtaining a gun."
-Again, their language puts the subliminal implication that society should be registering and licensing MORE, since in his option we are "only", "don't even" do such-and-such now.

"...the kind of thing that drives the gun owner group crazy, when they think that a reporter is writing about their issue with their guns..."
-So, gun owners and "reporters" must be two separate groups, right? Us vs Them. This is the narrative and subliminal opinion that pervades these articles. Unbiased journalists, my ass.

"I always hope that when journalists are covering gun violence, whether it’s homicide or suicide, they will focus on how the gun was acquired — how did it fall into the hands of the high-risk person? — because that often will teach us what policy solutions are most appropriate,”.
-Again, in black and white: focus on the GUN. Not the criminal, or the victim, or the circumstances unique to that case. No, focus on the gun so we can make more policy. WTF.

"If it was the gun that was stored improperly in the home that the young person commits suicide with, or shoots a sibling or a playmate with, that teaches us one thing. If it was a gun that was bought in a state that has looser laws and was brought into a state with stronger laws, that teaches us something."
-Cherry pick scenarios that highlight accidents and possible negligence of a gun owner. Cherry pick "facts" to support stricter gun laws. This 'expert' doesn't mention cases where someone defended themselves or others, or Stole the weapon, etc. because those scenarios don't fit his rhetoric.

"If you’re reporting the facts of an evidence-based study, don’t try to “balance” the coverage with an opposing opinion." "...journalists bend over backward to give organizations like the NRA or other gun-owning or opposition groups a chance to comment, sometimes on things that they don’t know very much about"
-Again, in black and white: UN-balanced reporting. Don't bother interviewing the NRA or gun-owners, since they don't know much anyway, right?

When you read these kinds of articles, or listen to discussions on the radio or tv, pay attention to those key words. A good journalist will hide their slant and report both sides. Most of today's "reporters" will tell you Exactly where they stand and their story will be biased accordingly.

    What a crock of shit.

I could use this anti-gun "logic" to go to Walmart and confiscate driver's licenses based on the way people operate shopping carts. In fact, many drive just as they push a shopping cart. Fits and starts, sudden stops/turns, slow down to snail speed or stop when you need to use your brain, on your cell phone, throw it into reverse without even looking up.........

Yep, the behavior is quite telling, and worthy of further scrutiny. I believe there is way more potential for a dumb-ass drivers to cause significant harm/damage than even criminals with illegal weapons, because they likely have a specific target in mind vs whoever happens to be victimized by the "accident."
