HELP! Anyone who would be willing to help me remove a muzzle device from a Remington 700, it's got enough rocksett to hold a dadgum space shuttle together...

I don't want to spend $130 on a vise I will use for 5 minutes.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I accept full responsibility for the waterfall amount of Rocksett I used. :yield:
NASA needs to hire you.... 228k mph atmosphere reentry would be a breeze with your knowledge and a bit of rocksett...

John-your profile doesn't say where you live but if you're near Crestview I have a vise and an acetylene torch if it's on that tight! you're welcome to come use it.

I've got it soaking right now, rocksett is water soluble, but I'm a firm believer in heat and a hammer... if I can't get it off I may have to take you up on the offer (I'm in Gulf Breeze)

Just gotta say - - -> a "muzzle device" held on with copious amounts of Rocksett.
That's just obscene !! Was it used in conjunction with a surpressor ?? --- SAWMAN
AND ¿¿ . . . Never heard of anyone simply using water to desolve Rocksett, but good luck wit dat.

    Yes, suppressor use....

Yes, water soluble per the label (boiling water recommended)....

    I have heard stories of people using a torch for removal,but I believe that I would first try a hair dryer,then a heat gun,then . . . ?? --- SAWMAN

I wrapped it in an electric blanket overnight, but that didn't work... I'll borrow the wife's hairdryer tonight...

sounds like you may need a barrel vise...don't put enough torque on it to unscrew the barrel...MAPP gas might work better (yellow bottle)

I’ve used two pieces of wood with the barrel sandwich between them in a regular vice before. Also if you smack the wrench with a mallet or hammer instead of just pulling on it you will likely have better luck. I’ve used that method several times successfully.

"Got it loose, gentlemen, 24 hour soak in water and it came off with not much effort" That is great John. I really didn't think of protecting the gun in a shop vise I guess we could have cut some wood blocks. I need to look into some protective or padded vise jaws.

I usually use scrap pieces of leather. Works real well.
