I am looking to get a 22 cal pistol for plinking at the house. I want it to be accurate, and be capable of putting a suppressor on it. I have been looking at the Browning Buckmark. Does anyone have any other suggestions or opinions?

Ruger with heavy, threaded barrel. My MKII 22/45 has delivered ourstanding accuracy with bulk Federal! Running great right out of the box no mods. You don't need to keep it spotless clean either. You don't need to do what some consider a complicated take down: drom mag, lock bolt back: solvent brusf bolt face, extractor and breach. Spray our with aerosol gun scrubber, pull a boresnake through it once. Add couple drops of lube per the manual and wipe exterior 6-8 Minutes and your done. Don't add lube again until the action gets sluggish, dd a few drops, manyally cycle it few times the let er rip.

Best accuracy and value per $ IMHO

At the PRPC weekly bullseye matches, the S&W 41 is most popular, followed by bull barrel Rugers, followed by Hammerlis and Brownings. I agree with 666 that the Ruger is the best value.

You live in Milton. I live in Milton. Let me bring over Smith Victory and Browning. Both threaded. You can shoot both and decide.

I have a Ruger Mk II and IV 22/45 lite...the ruger Mk IV is one that your description fits best I think...mine is fs/ft in the WTB section btw. The lite version has threaded bbl and rails and is a pretty neat pistol for plinking, backpacking etc...

What is the difference between the Mark IV and the Mark IV 22/45?

    If you ever try a
    Colt woodsman
    High standard
    Browning nomad
    Or browning medalist

You wont wast money on any of the new and improved so called target 22s.

And most time they can be found for same or less price of new.

They have not been around for 60 plus years because there junk.

And I had a roger mkii target and it was not close to the group the nomad made.
Had it for many years ....its gone but the nomads are still here
    My .02

    Choices there out there

    Ask around and try one.
    Any one

High Standard 22 & S&W Model 52 38 special the only American pistols to ever win an Olympic event . Hamden mfg High Standard barrels are as " match dimension" correct as the $ 2K + Euro Target pistols . S&W 41 barrels are either good or no good . Just like a rifle correctly sized & cut chamber consentric w/ bore < lands & grooves lead etc means the difference between a golf ball @ 50yds vs a softball .

I think it has to do with the "lite" construction, rail and threaded bbl. A Mk IV can be had a good bit less expensive than the 22/45 lite, and I know that mine has a rail on top and there is a model that has a rail above and below. The inner workings are all the same.

The grip. The 22/45 has less angle to the grip

I have a Browning target model and I love it. The fit and finish are much nicer on it that on the Ruger MKII that I used to own. That being said, I never have owned a Ruger MKII with the 5.5" bull barrel and would love to have one someday. I have fired a S&W Victory with silencer and that is pretty neat. But it's not exactly economical compared to the other two if you're going to add a suppressor. You can't go wrong with a Ruger, that's for sure. I'd look for used MKII because I'm not a fan of the later ones with the magazine disconnect safety.

I've put 500 rounds through my M&P22 compact without a failure which is dang impressive for a .22 handgun... I finally broke it down and cleaned it, it wasn't terrible at all.

I considered one of these. Probably will get one in the future. Which suppressor do you have?

Enjoy the pain of learning how to strip it...well, that's not that hard,
putting it back together correctly...now THAT is time-consuming and irritating ;)
Main reason folks go High Standard Victory or Browning.
