My rifle is chambered in 5.56 so I know I can shoot either. I primarily shoot my AR for two gun matches.

Since we are only shooting out to 300 most times, I usually just shoot 55gr. I don’t go “match grade” but I also don’t go cheapest possibel.

Any advantage of one over the other? I’m getting ready to look for another 1000 or 2000 on line so I thought I would ask.

5.56 chamber ='s 5.56 loads. For your purpose I believe that the ammo will be cheaper, especially in the quanities you mentioned.
Some of the 55gr FMJ (military style) loads in 5.56 are pretty accurate. Usually loaded a little hotter than 223Rem loads also. --- SAWMAN

Yeah, one is match grade (match) and one is cheap grade (cheap). Your Cheap won't be as consistent as the match grade. Go figure. :decision:

For the general purpose sub-300yd rifle ammo, I'd say AE XM193 would suffice. I've also had pretty decent accuracy with Wolf Gold 55gr as well. But we're talking steel targets not moa paper shooting too.

How about PMC X-TAC ?? One version is chambered in 5.56 and others in 223Rem.
I got a few boxes awhile back for sighting in a 24" AR hunter and it shot amazingly well. It was the 5.56 55gr FMJ coming out of a 5.56 chamber and a 1:7 twist bbl.
I cannot remember the cost. --- SAWMAN
