13-Foot Georgia Gator Found In Bad Shape, Was Put Down
    1
A gun shot wound to the head was found on this 50-year-old Lake Blackshear alligator.
By Brad Gill on March 5, 2019 News

An alligator that measured 13-feet, 4-inches long recently had to be put down, according to Brent Howze, a WRD biologist in southwest Georgia. The large gator that could easily have been 50 years old was found by a farmer in an irrigation ditch in the Parker Slough area in the upper western portions of Lake Blackshear in Sumter County.

IDK, but it looks pretty healthy to me even with a old head wound.
QUOTE: “That is absolutely unusual behavior when this thing could have clearly gotten out of the ditch,” said Howze. “It wasn’t like he was stuck in the ditch, he just wouldn’t leave. We are pretty sure this alligator came there because it was the end of his life.”

Maybe he was just sluggish from coming out of hibernation? Or maybe too fat and too big that he didn't have to move like a younger 4' gator would have?
But I wasn't there, so I don't know, can only go by what they said.
And I am severely pissed about it. I mean like they could've called me to offer me a few pounds of tail meat. Some people are just plain Greedy.

That is about 30 minutes from my house. I understood it had several wounds. I have seen several close to that size, 10-11 ft on the Golf Course there at times.

You can't harvest a gator out of season or without a permit. Out of season you can only destroy them.
