I believe he Zeroed in first try. Looks like type 38 Arisaka. So many of these are missing the bolt. Guess that was the easiest way to render them non firing as a war trophy. Mum looks to be ground also.

wow, not sure except it is a Mauser copy of some type. I'm not familiar with Japanese guns but I'll be delighted to help you drink the Crown and try to figure it out!

Looks like this good man wins the Crown! Found a good pic of one and it matches this old relic to a "T". Shame it's in this shape as they bring pretty good money.

Clean it up, soak the stock in your favorite wood oil, order a bolt from Numrich, then sell it for a nice profit ;)

as already stated.... its an arisaka, here is my type 38 carbine w/mum... I've got a functioning sporterized 38 carbine w/ground mum I'll sell ya for $150 and you can begin a restoration.... or I'll give you $10 for that one & I'll have a go with it....if its a carbine... pictures make it look a bit longer like a type 38.....

Type 38 Arisaka is correct. If it was a Type 99, it would had an upper wooden handguard and this one never had one.
