Hoping someone out there has a low mileage 6L80 transmission for my 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 LTZ. Transmission fluid pump went out and pretty much burnt up everything inside. It's a 6 speed automatic. Or, if anyone here is a transmission specialist that can do a GOOD rebuild or reman, that would be good too. Please let me know price and condition if you have a trans for sale. If you can do the labor as well as rebuild, that would be even better. Looking to get this done in the next 3-4 weeks. If you're able to do the labor and rebuild I'd like to know what kind of warranty is offered as well. Thanks for reading.

I have a friend that can do the labor. I'd either buy a new one or one from a salvage yard with as low miles as you can find.

I killed the sunshell in my 4L60E last summer. Local rebuilders quoted me ~$2500 installed with 1 year/12,000 mile warranty. I ended up going with a Jasper remanufactured tranny thru Mack's Auto Tech in Crestview. $3500 installed with 3 year/100,000 mile nationwide warranty. I believe the tranny from Jasper was ~$2200 and the rest was labor/fluids/etc. Just got the fluid/filter change at the initial 5000 miles which is required by Jasper for the warranty. It was pricey but it's just like a new tranny, supposedly better. Happy so far.

You can go on Jasper's website and get a quote on the tranny. Looks like your tranny is $3199 from Jasper. Probably assume ~$1200-1500 for install.

There's George's Transmission (850-623-8154) in Milton for a rebuild. I'm thinking Slim's Auto Salvage (850-626-6730) in Milton that has a 4L80, could be a 6L80 tranny, not sure which? Thinking it's 4L80 tho. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask. g/l

Thanks for all the replies everyone. From all the calling around and reman vs rebuild I've found that George's has the best price with a reman and labor. $3500 OTD for a 6L80 is super cheap. They have a nationwide 3 year unlimited mile warranty to boot. Thanks again yall.

@ stage20...I have a 2009 Silverado LT 2wd VIN J 5.3L and just swapped in a 2009 VIN O 5.3L. The 6L80E transmission was good before the swap and apparently developed torque slippage with the install of the newer motor. I was told by a transmission shop that the slippage was 15%-465%. I was told I needed a new torque converter but he would only do that if I had the trans rebuilt at a quoted price of $3500-$4300. So I have 3 questions if you or anybody else can help.

    1. Will the VIN code change possibly cause the trans to misbehave like it's experiencing torque slippage? I used all of the accessories and sensors off of the removed motor. Maybe only need a reprogramming?

    2. Would a broken wire cause the appearance of a slippage issue?

    3. If a rebuild is needed, I will do it myself. I am looking for any experience and/or suggestions for a good quality kit. I looked at Monster Transmission but they don't sell the rebuild kits for this model.

Also, If anybody has a trashed 6L80E or 6L90E paper weight they want to dispose of, let me know. I wouldn't mind getting one to mess with before I dig into mine.

@kidsoncoffee...Apologies for hijacking the thread, just seemed like a good place to ask. Do you have the 6L80 or 6L80E? Have you gotten your trans swapped yet?

That's a tough one. If the converter is bad and no material entered the transmission you can swap a new converter and be good to go. If indeed the transmission is slipping then it may not have been a good unit to begin with. Not sure on the programming on those. Different years and vin#s may have different valve bodies or solenoid packs.
Those Ford's are tough to find. Most are sold for rebuilds or scrapped for aluminum if they are busted

Ford's? Thanks for the information. I'll probably end up just buying a rebuild kit for the unit I have now. I failed to mention that it has 254k miles on it.

Jasper with stage 2 shift kit it’s the only way to go

A week later and I'm still waiting for a quote from them. They were the first place I looked. They did a great job rebuilding my dad's 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire Roto Hydramatic transmission.

I’m late as usual but Adams Garage in Opp,Al. (334-493-6430) rebuilt my 4L60E for $1147 with a one year nation wide warranty. They did everything except get it to there shop. They build transmissions for a lot of the dirt track and mud racers

Ford's=cores. Sorry. Dang autocorrect. I missed it. I've built many engines. Never a transmission. I'd get a good book and you'll prob need a few specific tools to put it together. I've always been scared of them but just parts and pieces. Good luck. Lmk how it goes

80 and 80e are all the same just some people leave out the E. Kind of like saying magazine or clip. Same difference. Stage hooked me up with an awesome mechanic that did a swap for me. I opted for a reman from advanced auto as it carried the same warranty as a factory replacement and was much cheaper. I had just under 200k miles on mine when the trans fluid pump gave put and starved the trans of fluid. Trans overheated and smoked pretty much all the internals. If it's the pump you can hear it. Sounds like an ac compressor going out. I know the new trans had to be reprogrammed so not sure if that's your problem or not. I'd honestly go with a reman and save yourself the headache if anything fails. I want to say it was around 2500 for the trans. 3200 with labor and he replaced the radiator, trans cooler lines, rear main seal, trans, and fluid.

Thanks for all the info guys! Still haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. I think I'm going to do the rebuild myself. It's my son's truck and he's off to boot camp right now and momma is saying, "Get it done", lol.
