Thinking about hunting hogs on Florida management land and was wondering if rifles were legal to use? Thought I had read or heard somewhere only shotguns but from what I read on the FWC site that right were ok as long as semi-autos have smaller than 5 rnd mags. Can anyone clarify for me? Thank you!

Escambia and Perdido Rivers. Buddy that fishes there hears some and wondered if I wanted to hunt it with him.

If you go to myfwc.com and click on hunting, the brochures for each WMA, which includes the rules, are listed there. I *think* both of those are pretty similar when it comes to hogs.

Yes . . . as you stated in the OP.
Lots of wardens in those two WMA's so make sure you do everything right.
Watch out for other peoples corn. If you get caught anywhere around it you could be in trouble. --- SAWMAN

Yep, you already went to the Fwc website...missed that, my bad.

I've hunted hog with rifle in Escambia during general gun season. No issues there. Under each season, it'll list what you can hunt and during general gun season, hogs are on the list.

I duck hunt both areas. We shoot 2-3 hogs each year. I always pack 10.5 AR pistol with Hog Hammer Ammo and a 5 round Mag. They're definitely out there.

Just fyi, 5 round mag max capacity is for rifles only... pack a 30 round mag in an AR pistol... completely legal.

Damn, now that you say that it makes perfect sense. I never thought of it that way. The only reason I take the pistols because it's easily stowable. Thanks for the insight

On a side note, I'm always open to taking anyone hunting. Definitely don't claim to be a professional but it's always fun to go hunting with other people. I have a boat and usually launch at Beck's Lake in Cantonment. If anyone's ever interested in going, just let me know.

For General Gun hunting, Perdido requires a quota and Escambia does not. But as mentioned, check their brochures, and I've met and spoke with game wardens at both places so Sawman is correct, they like it there!-:) They also like to catch people drinking at Perdido River in the summer!-:)

Here is another "good one". During small game season you can hunt hogs . . . with a centerfire pistol of unlimited magcap.
Hunted them all the time with my Desert Eagle. --- SAWMAN

I was just in Escambia this week. Plenty of hog signs all over the trails.

If you are not hunting what are the rules in WMA for concealed carry. Can you also have a non-hunting dog with you. I might be interested in hiking or biking in such areas.
