I figure I will pass on some info my dad taught me. I picked up a shop vac off the side of the road a week or so back. When I got home I tried it out. When I turned it off it made a very loud screeching/whirring noise. This is probably why it was on the side of the road. I removed 6 screws and put a few drops of motor oil in the bearing and it is back up and running normal. It took less than five minutes. My dad has done this probably 3 other times with the same result.
This may not help someone who uses their vac on a daily basis but works great for those of us that use ours once a month or so.
