Thats my thought right now. Just made me think when I saw the tow ratings and the mpg of the newer 1500. But I do like have no payments and I hate electrical and sensor issues on newer vehicles

    my 2014 1500 was rated to tow 10K, but I upsized to a 2018 2500 and so glad I did (got a 5th wheel so 1500 wouldn't cut it)

What year is your silverado? Is it regular cab? Thats really good mileage for our motor. Stock tires? 4 or 6 speed?

it's a 95 ext cab with a 02 donor 6.0v. non-stock tires, 4l60e tranny. running a air handler from a 6.5 diesel system. mind you, when you put your foot in it, it flies down the road, as does the mpg. But driving prudently, it's really good for a 4x4 6.0v. I was pulling my 17' cc today, and the lowest it got was 4.8 when I gunned it getting into traffic. But I was still getting 14.8, towing it in town, higher at times.

I’ve got a crew cab 06 Z-71 4x4 that was 6 years old when I got a deal on it
It’s just rolled over 300K miles and I still have less than the current blue book value even counting repairs. I mostly pull a 16’ Rhino Jon boat but also use it to tow a dual axle trailer with my tractor on it.
Mileage is 12-14 in town 16-17 open road but it’s paid for
If. I’m worried about mileage I drive my 2005 Camry that gets 30-32 in town and 35-38 open road

Ok. Makes since. Your truck is a little lighter than mine and I have the 4l80e which is also heavier and takes more power to turn. What is the 6.5 air handler? Are you talking about the turbo system?

This is about 110 miles into this tank of gas. I just put a K&n air filter in a couple of days ago. Yeah that says 24 miles to a gallon.

What it says and what it's actually getting are 2 different things. Hand calculate your fuel by using the tenth on the mileage and the thousandths on the pump. I can make my Cummins read 28 on the highway and I've had it as high as 23 in town. Never calculates correctly.

Not sure about towing, but if you're more concerned with the mileage, change your running gears out to the 3.73. or maybe 3.83. I have a silverado 6.0 4x4 with 3.73 gears and get 18 and nearly 20 on interstate, mostly 14.8 in town.
Also have a 4x4 s-10 running .411 gears getting 25 on interstate at 70mph. Had the 5th gear changed to a high hiway gear and it cadillacs in 5th. All other gears whine, looking for a higher gear, but when I hit 5th, it's like the rpms drop 1/2 and never whines for another gear.
    g/l

Is yours a 2500 or a vortec max? In town numbers are good but you will never see 18 or 20 out of a 3/4 ton 6.0

It's accurate, I've checked it multiple times. Not sure what your deal is, but the new trucks get great mileage it's not really debatable.

just the 4" air induction system (everything from the intake to the air box) w/o the turbo. I don't think there is enough room under the hood to have used the turbo system too. a/c unit, battery and tray had to be relocated due to room restraints. been thinking of putting a blower in it, I saw somewhere ? where a certain blower would fit. But I'm in no hurry to do that yet ($$$). yes, it's light, and barks the tires when 2nd gear hits.

** earlier typo, mine is a 4l80e, not the 4l60e

Dually's suck gas like Liberals sucking at the gov't trough.

Cute trick is to run the rear tires as SINGLES
until you need to tow something or haul a bed-full of junk ;)
That way you get Regular Truck mileage.

Also, lean that puppy out! If it's carburated, you can play with it.
If it's EFI, get a Fuel Miser Chip.

    2005 Silverado 2wd 5.3L 6.5inch lift on 35x12.50R17

    K&N cold air intake
Bully dog tuner set to regular fuel economy

I average 18mpg which is better than the 12mpg I got before the upgrades.

For real? I've always been skeptical of over-the-counter tuners. If that's the case on a 6.5" lift with 35''s, you're doing very good!

Tell me more about this tuner please! I'm averaging between 12-13 mpg right now with mostly city driving and traffic getting on an Air Force base to go to work. What model do you have? I noticed on Bully Dog's website there are several different models. Does it allow you to set your tire size and remove the speed governor?

Do you get 18 in the city or on highway? Same question for the 12? To me thats a huge gain with just a tuner you usually se 1.5 or so mpg gain. Maybe 2.5 if lucky. When you were getting 12 mpg did you have the lift and tires? And was the computer programmed for the tire change?

I drive mostly city if you consider Milton a city. I have the GT model from 2014. I also have never been accused of having a lead foot. I coast whenever I can and don’t gun it all the time. Pull some fuses, add tire size and select your driving style. It even has a trainer mode to let you know when you are wasting gas. Don’t over look the K&N cold air intake either. It adds a little too. I forgot I also have a flow master muffler with a 4 inch side pipe that comes out in front of my passenger side rear tire. Idk if that helps too
