I'm needing a good quality gun vise. I'd like something versatile, that can also be used as a shooting rest. I want quality, and made in America is a must. Im considering CTK Precision's P3. I'd appreciate the benefit of your experience, and your recommendations. Thanks in advance

I've yet to see a "gun vise" made of plastic that's worthwhile. Gave up on all of them years ago.
Good old Lead Sled solves a lot of bench rest issues.

At home, I've got a blacksmithing bench vise for gun repair work and use leather jaw pads so it doesn't mar anything while working.

Of course, anyone with half a brain can cut a piece of wood to fit their magwell on any mag-using Pistol or Rifle...screw & glue it to a board, and DING, yer done :D

...anyway, the wooden magazine holds the firearm in place and the base can be clamped down to your workbench/table.

This one holds a Luger, which is why it has the dowel thingy on there.

And yeah, you can either make it plain, or make it look nice like this one so it works as a Display Stand for special occasions ;)

Imagine working on yer AR15 as it stands freely on a mag-stand...solves a few issues, doesn't it? :D
Oh, on that...one can take an AR mag out of the trash bin at the range and simply Gorilla Glue it to a piece of wood...add a couple screws if ya want.
(Bent & Broken lip mags are fine for that!)

Hope that helps a little :)

Thank you for that. I just moved to north Milton on 16 acres.
I want to make myself a 100 yard range, and I'll need
A bench rest for sighting in. Thanks for the help

Let me know if you need help building that range. I need somewhere to shoot and don't mind putting in some sweat equity to help someone out for the privilege of using said range.

Thanks, I have to take down fences, and build a berm to shoot into. 16 acres is a good piece of dirt, but not enough that you don't need to worry about a stray bullit intruding on your neighbors.

Ah, ok, so you need a BENCH first ;)

If you've been to ERML, you'll see a combo-bench that has some great things about it,
and some not-so great...like they skimped on the seat. Other than that, good bench ;)

But since it's for your own personal range, you can make it to Fit You!
I'd suggest a regular bench with a small removable box in the middle to push all the brass on the table ;)
    Quick & Easy brass collection!

Consider an Awning or simply use a large Shooting House/Shed for all-weather use.
Also, firing from a shed has a secondary effect, it muffles some of the sound.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to start putting suppressors on everything, either...
we all know how the "Personal Range in Gulf Breeze" turned out...
(in other words, Dadgum Yankee neighbors screwed that up for everyone)
But that has it's own thread to read & chat about.

Good Luck and BUILD THE BERMS HIGH!!

Hello, nice post that’s matching with my opinion! You can try this tipton gun vise for you. The vise was intended to put up the widest conceivable exhibit of guns for cleaning, upkeep or maintenance, and is effectively configurable to deal with bolt activity rifles, tear open shotguns, AR-15's, and handguns. A focal aluminum channel gives the client a chance to move singular segments to the perfect position for their gun. Every individual part at that point changes with the ideal position for secure help. The back base highlights two movable counterbalance braces for a tight hold on a wide scope of butt stock designs. The Best Gun Vise is well-founded and is produced using astounding; dissolvable safe material that will confront long stretches of hard use.

I use that Tipton as a cleaning station. I also have a hand made oak one they works pretty goo too. Don't think I would want to shoot from either of them.

I'm in the two seperate jobs club. A gun "vise" is a hard mounted device you place a firearm in (adapters/cushions) tighten down and then you can crank on or work the firearm without it moving. A "rest" is not hard mounted, can be used as a stable firing point or for routine maintence. I use a 5 inch jaw bench vise for one and a Outers Varmiter for the other. It works with pistol giips but you may need short mags for some applications.
