Looking to get into longer range shooting and want to buy one that's 1000 yard capable. Right now I'm looking at a browning x bolt hells canyon long range or a sako a7 roughtech range. Probably chambered in 300 win mag. Similar prices but curious on which people think will be the better gun ?

If you're interested in building your own I've got an American rifle company Nucleus action and a Magpul PRO stock available. I don't have the time to build it up and or use it on the near future.

DON'T get tunnel vision. There are tons of rifles that have the potential to hit targets at 1000yds and beyond.
It WILL be expensive. Think optics and trigger. And . . . BTW . . . the chambering does not have to be 6.5Creedmoor. --- SAWMAN

Not sure what you use for this would be
I have shot .243s to 1K without issue so you don't need a 300 Win Mag to do that...they will shine @ 1500+ tho
I went to a wind class with a fellow from Israel and after the class he went hunting out west and took a Buffalo at 1379 with the 300 Win Mag GA Precision built for him.
I think the 2 you mentioned would make an excellent hunting rifle...not something I would want to bang on steel with all afternoon tho

I may also choose the Sako over the Browning

Interesting chambering (6Creedmoor). Been looking at one in the Ruger American. The 1:7.7 twist rate is one thing that I am interested in.

Hey Doc, may I please ask the twist rate of your gun ??
    That is a hellova deal.
Narrowing down my collection to just one longer range gun (600yd). Do not really need a bigger bore for what I will hunt the rest of my life. Just might want to set up further back for yotes, etc.
I really like the way the .243" bullets have gone in the last 20 years or so now. Some great bullets >100gr,and <70gr. Adds some great versitility to the .243" chamberings. --- SAWMAN

Its the 1/7.7 twist barrel. Same twist as the ruger american. Here's the link. Mine really loves the Hornandy 108gr ELD-Ms. Also loves the 105gr hornandy HPBT along with some H4350.

Im just using mine for LD shooting and plinking steel. My buddy has some 115gr DTACs and im gonna see how they shoot. Also looking at the barnes 87gr. Just want to see what they will be coming out of the barrel at. Another friend has a prarie dog issue on his dairy farm. Has had a few cows break their legs from the tunnels made by the prarie dogs. So i may go help him shoot some next weekend.

So the first picture is some hand load development. The 41.7 is 3 in one hole and two just outside it.

Second one is the first time i took her out and zeroed her in. The orange circle is a 2" circle and the first two rounds were high then the third round was a little high and to the left. Then the next 7rds are a jagged .6 MOA hole and that was hornandy match ammo with the 108gr eld M. Top left target is 5 rds 3 in a jagged hole and the other 2 touching. The rest were some handloads with hybrid 100V and 105gr hpbt bullets. This thing is a shooter for sure. Only thing i dont like about it is the bolt. It sounds like a zipper until its worn in a bit. Trigger was set a 2 1/4 lbs from the factory. Verfied with RCBS trigger pull gauge. No creep in trigger. An overall amazing rifle to say the least. Plus even if i have to rebarrel after 2k rounds i can pick almost any cartridge i would like. And even with a high end barrel manufacturer, it will still cost less than one of the other RPRs.

That is a good price for a great shooter.
Bet you could get 4000fps+ out of a 55 or 58gr but if you hit anything before the target, the bullet will most likely vaporize.
Great bbl length also. IMO some of these guns have too short of bbl for what they are designed for. A good example is the 308 version of the RPR.
    Hey . . . . . . . how about a 6mm Creedmoor AI. --- SAWMAN

why not the 42.3... it is not stringing vertical and appears to have 3 in almost the same hole?

Very true Jester896. Also found the ELD-Ms found they like a 20 thousandths jump to the rifling.

This picture top left is 4 in the same hole and then i called the pulled one. Didnt help i had winds gusting right to left. Wind died just as i pulled the trigger on that group. That was only 38.8gr of h4350. Didnt have the chrono today. Wish i knew what it was going at. It really liked that load for sure. It doesnt like the 105hpbt as much as the eld m.

After i finished my load development, i went back to the hornandy match ammo and went out to 810yds. 4.5 mils of elevation from my 100yd zero amd about 1.75 mils of windage holding depending on the gusts. It made it seem so easy.

Im currently at 6800 above sea level. It sucks trying to breathe here!!! But its almost zero percent humidity and its averaging in the 30-40s now. My current loading is supersonic out to 1450yds here. Thats further than i can shoot at the range. Im limited there to 1080yds.

This is from on top of the Conex Boxes to the back of the 2400M UKD Range we shoot at some. It is a whopping 400' ASL, it's not 40, and there is plenty of humidity :D
I think there is 1048 on the KDR

Maybe if im ever out there we can shoot. 2400yds is a very long distance. I like using my scope to actually find the distance and then find the DOPE for it.
