I don't know what the recoil is like on a 7mm-08 but I know the .243 works well for kids and still has good knockdown power for the deer here in the SE.

My wife has a youth 243 that he is welcome to shoot to try it out. Also we have ar15s in 300 blackout that would be a great option as well

I'd suggest keeping him on the AR15 platform. It's ergonomics and adjustable stock make it a good choice for small shooters. You only need to switch out uppers in differing calibers to suit it to what you're going to hunt. The 6.8SPC, 6.5 Grendel and .300 Blackout are all good hunting calibers that are easy on smaller shooters.

Well, My 16y/o daughter wants to take her HS class and go Lope/Deer hunting with dad later this fall.

I've only got a 300 WinMag and I don't even shoot that much since I've got my bow.

I'm pretty sure she can handle most calibers(5'7"), but wondering what others have bought their daughters?

    Thanks.

My daughter has been shooting a .308 AR platform since 9. She's tiny!

I put the reduced recoil Hornady rounds in it and kick is equal to a regular 5.56 basically.

She now has a bolt action .308 with those same reduced recoil rounds and she handles it! She's 12 now. But she got it when she was 10.
