Haven’t shot buckhorn 209 since it seems hard to find locally. I use triple 7 and the performance is excellent. In my experience triple 7 likes the muzzleloader primers best. A little more consistent and you don’t get a fouling ring as bad. As far as cleaning goes, in the field a couple damp patches followed by some dry ones will remove most everything in the bore except a bit of the fouling ring. When I clean them at home I just use hot water on all my ML and triple 7 cleans up fine.

I hear buckhorn has more energy and needs a hotter ignition source but, no first hand experience.

Yeah, Trip 7 for me also. I use three 50gr pellets behind a 245gr Power Belt Aerotip.
Slams at both ends. Cleans up easy. Pellets makes it super easy to load. (Mark your ramrod.)--- SAWMAN

I use loose powder myself since I can adjust the load. Use to use the triple 7 pellets but when using a full bore bullet loose powder seems to help with the accuracy. I’m shooting 420 gr No Excuse Bullets.

I definitely agree with marking your ramrod. To any new black powder shooters do it on a clean bore. Once it fouls that last inch or so can be hard and you want no empty space between the bullet and powder.

Black horn 209 is the cleanest out of all of them I have tried. Its also less corrosive according to everything I have read and observed myself. I like using it during hunting season when I may have a charge in for a couple days to a week. My next choice would be Triple7, seems more consistent than Pyro but does leave a crud ring that can be a hassle if doing a quick follow up shot.
