Never tried before but I'm getting all set up to go out and try to stick some flounder. Anyone on here mess with it?

Honestly I'm still trying to figure out if I'm gonna build one myself or just buy one pre made. I'm leaning towards building myself. I do know I want to run it on a small battery so I don't have to drag a car battery behind me. There is a guy that makes them over on PFF, I got a message into him to see what he says.

a guy built some LED handhelds that look real sleek and should do the trick nicely if any one is interested, I have a couple left @$15.00 each, IIRC 25 lumens. They operate on a small 12v batterys that fit easily into a fanny pack and last all night

Back in the day, we used a kerosine or propane flounder lantern with replaceable globes, tennis shoes to wade with, and three prong gig. Stuck a lot flounder. Used a weighted ice chest to keep it stable and pull it along with you.
Now days you can buy a setup with PVC frame, much better battery powered lighting, battery storage, and ice chest with battery storage, or a rechargeable spot flood light much brighter than the old globe lanterns, pull or push, your frame/ice chest depending on your setup.
Very effective way to stick flounder. Careful not to try to lift a doormat flounder with a gig. Also, make sure its a flounder, not a stingray. Tail identification is important!
Slide you hand under the fish to keep it from dropping off. They will wiggle off the best gigs.
There are a lot of do-it-yourself ideas online. Google.

I do it a bunch... haven't gone as much this year as I like... the few times I have gone, there were plenty of other folks doing it too.

I use a handheld light that runs off 8 AA batteries, they sell them at Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle.

Dang John that's a haul!! I just spoke to Mr. Cosson and ordered 3 or his stainless gigs with the alloy tips. Gonna head to Outcast and pick up some Boutwell poles so I should be good to go in that department!

What kind of battery life do you get off those AA lights they sell at GB B&T?

4-5 hours typically. Usually longer than I care to walk.

Plenty of time. Do you mind if I pick your brain for a minute? I have a couple questions.
