    Forgive me if my terminology is imprecise, but with the slide in the locked back position, you stick one of those wire tools through a hole in the one-piece guide rod. Then, when you release the slide lock, and remove it for slide removal, the guide rod stays extended. The wire tool keeps the guide rod from going back in the slide from the spring pressure. The enclosed manuals explain how to use it.
