I'm wanting to get either a new or used Rem 700 in .204 Ruger or just buy a new/used action for a .204 ruger build.

So whilst surfing, I seen these sales ads. Seems cheaper (to a degree) to buy the rifle and work from there.

    1st. This Rem 700 .308 ADL rifle sells for $365.49 at https://gun.deals/product/remington-700-adl-camo-308-win-26-wscope-36549-after-code-take15.

    2nd. This Rem 700 "Police" .308 rifle sells for $749.95 at https://gun.deals/product/remington-700-police-308-win-26-74995

    3rd. This Rem 700 5R .308 rifle sells for $799 at https://gun.deals/product/remington...fluted-threaded-h-s-precision-stock-black-fin

Question: Can some of you more experienced, 1st hand knowledge guru's know if the actions are the same in the 3 listed?

I know I'll need the.204 ruger, bolt (hence the 1st sentence), but I've read some people use the .308 bolt.

    Thanks for any advance insight.

The 204 Ruger is nothing but a necked down 223Rem right. So most anything 223/5.56 should work for it including the actions.
I would reccomend that you check the prices of the Ruger American and Predator. You just might find what you are looking for there. Built well. Not much money. ALREADY $200. worth of trigger (if tweaked). Great twist rate. Etc,etc.
    Take a look. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: The expense for the finished product,as stated by your above, would be cost prohibitive IMHO.

I understand what you are saying, and appreciate the feedback, and I may go that way? But I'm wanting to know now is if all 3 of the above listed .308 rifles have the same bolt/receiver? Reason asking is I'm not sure if the .223 bolt is the same bolt as the .308, other than just a smaller bolt facing? If this is the only difference, then I can better accept buying the .223 and work from there. Also, I'm wanting to build it so I can interchange barrels so I'm not stuck with just a .204. Savage is probably a better option as for the interchangeable barrels. But I'm up to bat with the rem 700 right now.

Bolt face is the difference only. Remember the adl. if you want a hinge floor plate does not come with it . then that is more. Just my 5 cents jj

I dunno, that's why I asked, But this is what I found and it's a tad different than yours for the .243/7mm-08:

Short actions with a bolt face .Dia of .473 +/-
    225 Winchester
    22/250 Remington
    6mm Norma BR
    243 Winchester
    250 Savage
    260 Remington
    6.5/284 Norma
    7/08 Remington
    284 Winchester
    300 Savage
    308 Winchester
    338 Federal
    35 Remington
    358 Winchester

Apparently the .470 is for long action:

Long actions with a bolt face .DIA of .470 +/-
    220 Swift
    6mm Remington
    240 Weatherby Mag
    257 Roberts
    25-06 Remington
    6.5x55 Swedish
    270 Winchester
    7x57 Mauser
    7x64 Brenneke
    280 Remington
    30/06 Springfield
    8mm Mauser
    338/06 A Square
    35 Whelen

I only listed short action boltface sizes and the more common rounds since you were looking for a .204. Your list is more complete than mine.
    A .470 boltface is what a .308 uses if it is S/A. A .470 L/A would be used on say a .30-06. A L/A .540 boltface would be used on say a 300 Win Mag or 7mm Rem Mag

but you could use a L/A .470 boltface and make a .308 :D...just to screw it up.

If your looking to make a .204 you will need the .384 boltface. You could make it out of any of those rifles listed with that boltface. You could go to Wally World and buy a youth .223 in ADL cheaper than you can buy a new action with a trigger and bolt.

Since the bolts are the same, I'll most likely either buy the .384 bolt face to swap, or just get a dedicated bolt for the .204, and another complete bolt for other (.308,.243,7-08) calibers, if I do the quick barrel change. Then I'll have the dedicated bolts they were designed for.
