LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Authorities are releasing more information after a car chase involving a 12-year-old girl turned violent Wednesday night. Newscenter 11 talked with the sheriff about what happened during that pursuit and why one deputy opened fire. Lauderdale County Sheriff's deputies rushed to the scene around 8 p.m., after a call that a 12-year-old girl had stolen her mother's car on Valley Road. When deputies arrived, the sheriff says the child led them on a chase through Southern Estates

The girl was not injured and was safely taken into custody. Her case will be handled through Juvenile Court.
Sgt. Cokel suffered a fractured wrist and other injuries. He'll be off the job for several weeks.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is stepping to handle the case since a deputy was injured and another fired his weapon.
