I think a good old fashion baton or a 7 cell mag light might have been a better tool in this case. It’s by the grace of God that both of the Leo’s weren’t killed on the spot.

Taser worked, control of the suspect was jacked up...They were suppose to be yelling get on your stomach not on your back since he was already on his back. Hard to believe the big officer couldn't manhandle him a little better but I've also been in that same situation so no armchair quarterbackin' Dope and mental health has alot to do with the scenario. Just glad both officers made it out alive...

The flashlight might have done better. The officer doing the punching does not know how to punch, it was more like flailing . I am sure the punches hurt, but there no real force behind. I have seen elsewhere some very detailed breakdowns of the mistakes that were made. In my opinion, while not the first mistake, things really went wrong after they dragged the felon out of the traffic. The felon tactically was thinking ahead. He was planning on getting his stashed .380 from the car. While on the ground he was trying to push the mag release on the officer's ankle back up gun figuring he could deal with only one round in it being fired at him. At that point officer wastes time by unloading backup gun.
By the way the choice of .45 ACP using around cars is not the best choice. In this country many years ago people first went to the .38 super, and finally the LEO community took up the .357 mag for shooting into cars. My experience has been that 9 mm FMJ Nato loads out penetrate .45 ACP FMJ. Both are pistols and neither can be counted on to put a felon jacked up on drugs down with a single shot if the CNS or a real major blood vessel is not hit.

yep, on his way from taking meals to the elderly, and stopping to visit crippled kids too...and going to hospice after church to comfort the terminally ill...

I'll say that police batons are really a lousy tool for the job.
I've been hit and hit people with both the old straights and the PR24.
Neither generally produce a knockout, even with full power hits.

On the other hand, a 4D-cell maglight would put most folks down
with one hit to the head. And also dead on occasion...all depended on where
    one made contact...

Now for out & out pain, the Spring Batons the Japanese PD uses are very effective.
Those spring steel whips are REALLY painful. And they sure know how to use 'em!
But the US public (meaning Liberals & crooks) really would hate those :D

As for the hand-to-hand those two officers were using...
OMG were they ill-trained! C'mon, take a few Krav Maga classes!!
That was a sad example of how NOT to do it.
