is it necessary to buy an AR specific cleaning kit, or can i just get a pack of AR cleaning pads for a general cleaning kit i already have?

looking through some reviews and it seams that the real avid pro pack is recommended

As long as you have a rod/sections that will fit the bore your okay. BUT, you still need correct chamber and bore brushes and jag/patch tips. You need a handle/rod that threads properly into the chamber brush as thats not push through like the rest. I recommend a USGI issue type Kit. Should have everything you need except your choice of solvent and lube. Rods are much better then the flimsy aluminum .22 kits. It may also help you clear a stuck case.
