What did you end up getting to reload for your 45-70?

I went against everyone's advice and I got the simple classic Lee loader kit. It's quite relaxing and enjoyable actually! It's something that takes a little practice and I have already loaded up some rounds. And I've shot them without problems.

Is it perfect or fancy? Nope! Does it get the job done for 20-40 rounds during a TV show? YEP!

405 Grain lead round on top of 45.6 grains of IMR 4064 powder does great. Got a caliper and a small scale to double check the powder and OAL of the rounds and it's worked out great. I don't need to reload much or often. Just wanted to be able to reload a few rounds here and there for this gun. Lots of online tutorials of folks doing this for the 45-70 round with the Lee Loader kits!

Doing a lot of research online for reloading the 45-70 and it seems the potential loads are endless.

Sample video below of a guy loading a 45-70 with this kit.

Between Trail Boss and H4895 the vels vs bullet weights in the 45-70 are endless.
Check the Hodgdon site for reduced/low power loads (60%) using H4895 ONLY. ---- SAWMAN

Yeah, there are endless variations. I went with the 4064 powder at first since it's slower burning and a course grain powder. From what I read, you run out of room in the case with this powder before you load it too hot for a modern rifle.

Just wanted to be on the safe side with my first time reloading on the cheap.

I have one of these Lee loaders for a 44 magnum I've probably had for 40 years. Haven't used it in many a year but it did work well although I admit I had a real hard time getting used to banging on a live round with a hammer.

you might be able to work that with a small arbor press too instead of the hammer. I'm sitting here wondering haw many primers I would set off before I got 10 cases primed tapping them in with a hammer :D. The press would have to give you a more uniform crimp too.

Alright folks, I have shot one box of factory ammo. I have now reloaded and shot that brass twice. I'm quite pleased with the simple process it takes to reload with this simple kit. As long as the bullet has a good cannelure right where I would need to crimp, this kit works great. Been loading cast 405 gr rounds and so far so good without any problems in my Henry.

That is one dead hog for sure. Nice looking rifle. I almost feel sorry for the pig.

This is by far one of my most favorite rifles I have owned to date. I don't know what it is about it. It's a blast to shoot and well, the fact that I can reload rounds that can take down almost any living creature on the face of the planet with this gun is just plain amazing really.
