I did want some of those 55 gallon plastic barrels split in 1/2 long ways but could not find them...soooooo

Then I added squash, cucumbers and water mellon in the ground...everything is doing well so far.

I have been so busy with clearing land and planting fruit trees I did not do a garden yet this year. I grafted about 20 local persimmons with kaki (asian) and improved american persimmons. Persimmons are tricky to graft so I do not know how many will take. Plan to plant a lot of loquats and some hybrid chinquapin x chinese chestnuts to go with the other chestnuts I already have going. I planted a couple of medlars and wonder how they will do along with some low chill cherries.

"Larry this is last years post of the plants,"

Lordy what a dummy, I'll have to start checking post dates more closely. In my defense I have never planted anything that grew other than some trees here and there so I'm no farmer!

I sure would like some 55 gal plastic barrels I can cut length wise instead of using buckets close to Cresview

I would want to know what were in them before I ate something that grew in them :)

I have considered doing above ground beds...incorporating compose and all. One of the nurseries close to me even keeps gin trash to mix in with theirs. Holding off until I finish the irrigation system I think...shouldn't be much longer.

I used to have a pretty nice garden when my dad was alive...we always compared and joked about who's was better.

I am using miracle grow garden soil for the first time, stuff is growing in it. Yeah most of the plastic barrels are ok to use, I always look into what they stored

Well . . . I was thinking of giving you 4 or 5 of the blue drums that I am not using . . .BUT . . . I do not have a signed affidavit that is notorized as to what was in them and if you grow tomatoes in them it might make you grow a third eye or something . . . sooooooooooo . . . --- SAWMAN

First wash the plastic drums with a good cleaning detergent. Maybe soft scrub or similar that does not leave an obnoxious residue.
Then triple rinse them with a good solvent for orangics that will not leave a significant toxic residue. Some things might be absorbed into the plastic. Do not put the rinsed soapy water or solvent into your septic tank if that is what you have.

Finally got my sprinkler system setup this past weekend so it will automatically water my container garden once I plant it. Getting a late start but knowing the sprinkler system will be watering versus me having to remember to water it will prevent me from killing things when it gets hot & dry!

I got my containers planted late February, a freeze got a couple plants but it’s doing quite well now. I’ve already been eating cayenne peppers. I have squash that should be ready by the weekend, tomatoes aren’t bearing fruit yet. My jalapeños and bell peppers are looking good and should be edible within a couple of weeks also. I have my soaker hose with a timer, figure the simpler I can make it the better off it’ll be.
