    Ah yes! The Opel GT

I remember (may be wrong) but I paid $3300 for the GT. It was a great little car, it had 2 carbs that got a little problematic at times and had a mechanical lever that opened the headlights up that needed tinkering with on occasion. Got good gas mileage and attracted a lot of attention. I got pulled over in Baton Rouge once because the police had no idea what it was, they let me off for speeding also.

1972 Datsun 240Z, my first brand new car. Got a $10k reenlistment bonus, paid $4200 for the Z, the rest went on beer and women. All are memories now.

2 cars I wish I still had. First was my '85 Grand National. Fuel injected and turbocharged V6 was big news back then! Classy car and about the fastest thing you could get in the mid 1980's. The other one I really liked was my '73 Road Runner with the 340 in it. First car that was mine, not my parents. Unfortunately I had no control back then, beat the hell out of it and drove it into the ground. Spent more time at over 100 mph in that car than anything else except my race car!!!

My recruiter said, when I asked about bonuses, that they only come with certain jobs. He said “would you rather have 4k$, or a job you actually like doing?”

    I ended up with neither.

1996 ford bronco I got from fwc. I put 1 ton axles out of a 79 f350 in it and 40 inch super swampers on 16.5 x 12 wheels. put real wood interior panels and overhead console in it out of a wrecked southern comfort edition f150 I had for parts. had a nice stereo system in it too. damn I miss that rig.

this was probably my biggest mistake to sell and the sad thing was that I didn't even NEED to sell it.
1966 Caprice, 2dr hardtop, all matching number big block(396) car. Black bucket seat interior, th400 trans, 12 bolt rear with 3.31 gears factory AC, tilt wheel, and the list goes on. Had just freshened up the motor and didn't even need to bore it the cylinders were so good. Machine shop ran a dingleberry through it, took the crank 10/10 and freshened the heads with hardened seats and new manley stainless valves. Paint was only two years old when I sold it. I hated myself when I saw the car drive off.

Sounds stupid but a 1990 Plymouth laser RS bought from an old man in 2003. Never knew why it was so fast until I attempted to put an intake on it and nothing bolted up. Apparently the old fella liked to order things from Japan that can't be bought here. I would set the cruise on 110 for a ride and had it well over 150 on a couple occasions. That car made me tons of money while I was beating college freshmen driving their mommy BMW

I wish I had back my 1966 Dodge Coronet 440. My Mom was first owner, but it began to nickel and dime me to death when I couldn't afford it and that V8 sucked the gas during the times of the Great Oil Shortage. 1966-Dodge-Coronet-440-magnum-yellow-2-1600x1067.jpg . It was originally a nice blue, but back then I had it repainted Canary yellow and all I could look at for the first week was that big yellow hood. But no one ever ran into me because you could see me coming a mile away. SO MUCH ROOM in those engine bays and so easy to work on, but I hadn't mastered those skils then and was short on cash.

I was a very lucky young man. My Dad was a certified motorhead and car nut and I reaped the benefits of that! In high school I had a 69 Mach 1 and a 65 Impala SS. The Impala was a beast and the most fun I ever had with a car. Good memories every time I watch Barret-Jackson.

Don't have pictures of the over 120 cars that I have had since 1964, but my first 2 were identical 1953 Pontiac chieftains. It was an ugly (I loved it) two tone green, dark on top and light on the bottom. It had a back seat that could easily seat 3, 300 pound men, and could accommodate anyone 6'8" tall. It had a 287 cu small block V8 (a version of Chevy's 283). I worked on cars back then and spent about 3 months combining the 2 to make 1. It wasn't my favorite car, but it was my first and I'll always remember it.
We were a family of 10 at that time, our parents could afford nothing extra for the kids, so if you wanted something, you had to work for it. Across the street lived a couple with only one child, his dad had a very good job, but lived modestly. Their son was about my age, and when he turned 16 (because he was a very good student) his dad bought him a brand new 1968 dodge charger with a 383 4 barrel 4 speed, light blue with a white vinyl top. That was the most beautiful car I had ever seen, he took me on several rides around town and I was amazed at the power that car had. It became my new "favorite car".
Don't get me wrong, I loved my old Pontiac, but it was a clunker compared to his.

    Thanks for the memories
    Mike R.
