Watching the Mecum car auction recently, I was drawn way back in life to at least a half dozen cars I could kick my own ass for not keeping. Foremost was my 1967 Buick Riviera, with hide-away headlights, a 430 c.i. 4 barrel, and the coolest speedometer in the world- a ball which rotated behind a fixed needle was sooo cool when I was a teen. You can laugh, but I WOULD restore my old lemon-yellow Pinto if I could, just to see the youths' reaction to it in a fast food parking lot. Think back...then share your own "Dammit" car that got away.

    1981 Toyota pickup in diesel.
Fuel consumption was measured in days per gallon instead of miles, and I could almost fit in the cab.

    65 Ranchero 289 cid, Chevelle SS 396 cid and a 74 Opel Manta 1.9L
All of them had automatic transmissions. The Manta needed a manual tranny as I never did get it to top speed, that automatic transmission just kept winding up. It took 5 miles to get to 130 mph but get it on a wet dirt road and it would spin the tires and swap ends if I wasn’t careful

68 Ford F250! It was my first truck, bought it 17 years ago for $750 from a pawnshop in Alabama. It had the original 240ci straight 6 w/ automatic transmission and a one ton rear end. That thing would pull a house off the foundation. Unfortunately, the wheel cylinders were shot in all four corners and I couldn't afford to fix it at the time. I traded it to a buddy for a 91 Olds Cutlass Calais with the quad-4 motor and a 5-speed transmission. I hated to see it go but I needed a reliable vehicle to get back and forth to work. Mine looked similar to this one.

Mine was my first vehicle I bought with my own money when I was a sophomore in high school in 1994. A 1980 Ford F150 Ranger 4x4. That straight 6 was bulletproof and the 4 on the floor made it a blast to drive. Guarantee it would be still running if the harsh Upstate NY salt didnt rot the body off. That thing got me in more trouble than I can remember. Looked like this one, but mine was blue and the body was beat to shit. Man I loved that truck. Screenshot_20180513-004956.jpg

'68 Firebird convertible, 350 small block. Had my Dad sell it when I went to boot camp in 1974. Not the best decision I've ever made.

Rambler Metropolitan (don't remember the year) and a 1973 Opel GT. Have had cars worth a bunch more but these 2 were really favorites with me.

I bought a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 428 Super Cobra Jet with Hurst shifter four on the floor. Had the hole in the hood with the shaker hood scoop sticking through and hood quick release pins. I think I paid $1,200.00 for it in 1974 right about the time the gas crisis hit. You could actually see the gas gage going down when you put your foot in it. I traded it even for a 1969 Volkswagen beetle :frusty:

I had the same drivetrain in a 69 Fairlane Cobra. The only car that I have had that would leave rubber on a 3rd to 4th shift at 100 mph. Sold for $500 when I was 19. Perfect body and huge comfy bucket seats. 1979 was a long time ago

If I had to pick an old car it would probably be my 73 Super Beetle. Fun to drive, built like a tank.

1971 MGB Roadster. Looked exactly like this one down to the color and wheels. It'd be cool to still have but in actuality it'd be too small, low to the ground, and hard to get in/out for me now. Plus I'm not much of a convertible guy anymore.

Wish I still had my 1963 Corvette sw coupe, factory air and 4 speed. Bought it for $3500 in 1974, sold it for $4500 in 1980. Worth well into 6 figures now.

They're beautiful (All the 60's Corvettes, I mean). Isn't the 63 impossible to buy because it's the only year they had a split rear window?
I'm the OP, and was moved to start the thread when I saw my old car coming across the auction block on tv. It was painful, but at least I know I'm not alone now. That '63 must really hurt if you catch the auctions occasionally...

Wish I had my ‘67 Mustang back. 289 V8 automatic.
    I gave $500 and a 1969 Honda CB175 for it in 1973.
I paid $225 for the Honda 3 months earlier.
Traded it in on a new Cutlass Supreme when I graduated college in 1979.
Seems like I got $750 on a trade in.
