Light bulb moment. How about the ringlets on boots where laces pass through ? 1 tray for bottom and 1 tray for top ringlet. although the trays won't hold many eyelets.

    Ridgerunner!
Was at the Tannehill State Park in McCalla Alabama yesterday for their big Trade Days show and spotted folks gathered around this object taking guess’s what it was.
Nobody including seller had a clue.
Thought of your thread and snapped these pictures.

About the time I was about to move on to another vender table a old codger spoke up and said it was a bail for a water well.
A rope was attached to lower and lift the bale.
Had a check valve of sorts so it would sink in the water and close when lifted.
Fella said this one would be a 2-3 gallon capacity.
Said the well he remembered using as a kid was 300’ deep.

    The MOAR you know!

Hey Plinker, the Navy uses a miniature version of that thing to get samples of fuel and water from the bottom of huge tanks on ships. It’s called a “thief sampler” and referred to as either a water thief or fuel thief as applicable
