I looked at getting a bandolier for 8 (IIRC) 20's. They are out there but I wanted a chest carrier which I got three of. Mil issue. They are designed for 6 30shot mags. I modded one with spacer to hold 6 20's.
These should be all I need for the "L.A. riots".
My gun will not have a bayo lug.--- SAWMAN

This is one of my mags that could possibly go good with that build.
Really retro looking. Unique base plate. Scratched up aluminum follower. Works great. --- SAWMAN

Mattel Marauder Division decal in place.

Asked a friend to bring his Colt M7 bayonet to the range...I wasn't sure it would fit over the duckbill flash hider...it did. He then reminded me that I'd bought a Colt M7 bayonet years ago at Knob Creek when he bought his (which I didn't remember at all). Got home, dug out the bayonet box, and sure enough there was a Colt M7 in a M8A1 scabbard. Also found a BOC made M7 bayonet with no scabbard in the box. Alas no Mattel marked bayonets in the box.

Might have some info on a 20rd Mattel M16 magazine this week. Emphasis on the word "might".

    This is fun!

Ordered a new tube for the laser engraver today and already shipped. It should be here Tuesday sometime and I will install it that night. Have two different logos to try designed already, just need to figure out settings. Did some research and think I have a good starting point. So the black areas would be the parts that would be where the laser goes over and leaves the clear areas (which would be the black) and in theory allow for a clean image. Mattel Logo.JPG Mattel Logo Simulation.JPG Each logo is 16.885 mm x 16.885 mm. So excited to see how it will look in the end.

Regarding the patch, I've heard that they were worn by Special Forces when issued Mattel's in Vietnam. Or that Special Forces at least had the option of wearing them if they chose to.

Since we have a SF member on the forum, Red, can you confirm that please?

Pretty amazing job! No cost minor details would be: groves in the lower portion of the bolt release and dimple both sides of the selector. I think that would match your "original duckbill". That above details (like parts) were probably phased out by the time the modified duckbill were added. We also know Colt never wasted any parts either, there are hundreds of transition guns that mix various older and newer parts.
You have created a very novel piece of Military folklore. Bravo Zulu

The added feature that the A-Teams used to put on their Mattel issued M16's was two pieces of surgical tubeing,a "Y" shaped piece of wood, and an old tongue from a leather boot.
They would mount this directly under the forearm (between the front sight and the front part of the receiver) held on with OD 200mph tape.
Carried in the top (starched and pressed) BDU shirt pocket was a good supply of the larger white marbles. The total number depended on their mission. This "ammo" was marked with a small number so that in their "after action report" they could tell who got the confirmed kill.
A white marble to the forehead and a "death card" would strike fear into even the most hardened VC soldier. ---- SAWMAN

Taken at an angle to better show the markings look more like roll marks with a little dirt/grunge in the markings from age and use. The serial number especially looks roll marked due to it being shallower towards the bottom. The maker of the 80% will be using this pic in his advertising when he makes more.

Run that serno thru the data banks and you should be able to trace the guns history.
Guessing - - - > traded to the old E-6 Navy cook that was in charge of the mess hall on "Rock Jaw" anchored in the Dong Ha river, for two 5lb cans of GI coffee.
His name was Jimmy Stavor if that helps. --- SAWMAN
