I'll Never set foot in Academy again

If your talking the Academy on Davis . . . I hate that place. The gun dept. clerks are as dumb as dirt. The cashiers are lazy and untrained. The customer service dept . . aint.
Never heard of the DOB thing. Guessing . . she is as uninformed as the rest. --- SAWMAN

I am 79 years old, a Marine and retired Public Safety, 30 years. Never been arrested or even accused of a crime. My advanced arthritis in my hands makes racking a semi-automatic pistol difficult, so Acad___ had a Taurus revolver on sale. I had never been there before, so was not surprised at all when they did the ATF check. It came back immediately that I was okay to purchase. Another clerk came up and said I would have to wait 14 working days before I could get the pistol. WHAT!

I should have told them to shove it where the sun don't shine, but I didn't.
Fourteen days later I went back, paid and started to the door. A clerk grabbed me and said "I must escort you out the door" I asked Why?
He stated, "You may just start shooting up the place."

WTF? Okay I'm old, look old, gray hair, but clean cut and still carry a badge

I will never go back there and I discourage anyone else spending their money at Academy

I hadn't thought about it until now, but several years ago I accompanied a friend who bought a pistol at Academy. He too was escorted to the door.

The Florida Academy's must be much worse than the Texas Academy's. My local Academy has never asked me for an ID or birthday to buy ammo or mags. I guess I look old enough to them. Bless their hearts. I've bought a few guns there, and they will escort me to the front checkout, and then out the door. I understand their policy on that. When asked for phone numbers or zip codes I'll typically give it to them, as it's sometimes used for warranty checks. There's been a few times I've had issues with products and had to take them back and had lost the receipt. The CS clerk was able to look up my purchase using my phone number, and promptly refunded my money. I'm OK with that.

I never give out my ssn, unless absolutely necessary. Doctors don't need it. So, they don't get it.

I bought my pistol there and walked out the same day with it. True, they held it until I got to the door, but that's their policy. I'm sure it has something to do with liability and insurance concerns. Didn't bother me tho, I had another one in my pocket, so no biggie.
And I've not been asked for ID for a mag, but I haven't bought one there in over a year.

Had Walmart once escort me out with a special order rifle. On the way to the door the female customer service type said; "Walking a weapon the the door always makes me nervous." I told her I understood, carrying an empty gun in public would make me nervous too....but no worry, I would protect her. I think she then remembered my CCW as she cut her eyes toward me (used back then to skip the background check) and realized I was carrying RIGHT THEN before she smiled. LOL

The base exchange escorts gun buyers out too, with thier employee holding the gun. I was wondering what this idiocy was about, but now I see that they aren't the only ones doing it.

Never bought a gun in the Exchange there, only guns bought through an Exchange were in Alaska in the '80's and they did not do it. The Exchange doing it makes it feel more insulting to me. Perhaps they are just copying commercial practices.

Back when Sears & Kmart sold rifles, they'd hand it to you at the gun counter & you'd
    walk yourself out ;) I miss the 70's & 80's! :D
