    Went very very simple on my mosing nagant refinish and did a complete strip and bleaching to straight "white" wood. I did very light sanding and lots of steel wool rubbing to get a super smooth finish and just applied layer after layer after layer of Boiled Linseed Oil to get a great blonde stock. Here are pics in process

    and after 1 layer a day for a week, it was 1 layer a week for a month. Now she gets 1 layer a year and lots of microfiber "rubbing" to buff the oil

    Looks good but I like the rearsenalled/original shellac myself. Good job saving the stampings in the wood

    you may already know.. but linseed oil soaked rags can be very dangerous.. as they can heat up enough to spontaneously combust as the oil cures.. be sure to lay them on the ground outside , anywhere but wadded up in the garage etc..
