May and June had good turn outs and good participation in the side matches. I've been thinking about side matches for July being a Back Up Gun (BUG) and a Shotgun side match - one for each date. Do you folks have a preference for which date should be for the shotgun and which for the BUG? Maybe we can get a poll going - moderator?

Make the BUG the same as the new class for short barreled guns. Not a full sized gun that someone clames to carry in a ankel hoster.

Clay don't deleat my post for spelling please. I'm not applying for a job.LOL

I'd prefer the shotgun to be the Saturday match. Can't do the Sunday match this month because I'll be working.

How many and what kind of rounds make up a shotgun match

Shotgun matches are typically less than 20 rounds, normally about 10 to 15 of shot (sizes 9 thru 6) and about 5 slugs for hostage taker targets. Otherwise your shoulder will be mushy the next day unless you have a Knoxx stock or PAST pad on your shoulder, but hey "Chicks dig Scars AND bruises !"

Unfortunately, not everyone has a sidearm classified as Back Up gun, but if you wish to use your back up gun and draw it from a conventional strong side holster after you transition from the shotgun, you are welcome to do so. You just can't draw the BUG from an inside the pocket or an ankle carry holster, or Small of the back, or shoulder position - too many "sweeping of the muzzle" issues. I'll wait for some more replies, but I'm leaning to Saturday for the shotgun side match.

I've now got several pistols that qualify for BUG so I'm anxious to run them

Another for BUG on Sunday. Will we need a sling for shotgun? What about spare ammo?

Sling for shotgun? YES ! When your long arm (primary arm) runs out of ammo, or malfunctions and you can't "fix it RIGHT NOW!" you don't want to have to lay down your expensive and DEVASTATING primary weapon while you "deal with the problem in front of you" or asking someone to please hold your expensive gun. A sling is to your long arm as a holster is for your handgun.

Spare ammo: Always a good idea in case you have to shoot the stage over, lend someone else who ended up caught short of ammo, or you run into a crisis ON THE WAY home. Don't shoot up all your ammo at the range. Have some available for the "unknown and treacherous trip home" or to wherever you are going. Remember the Boy Scout motto, it's a good'un "Be Prepared." Now I am stepping off my soap box. See you at the range.

Shotgun at the Sunday match would be better for me, so I can get in a little practice beforehand, but I'll take either weekend, or even better, both.

Okay, the votes have been cast and it looks like we're on for Back Up Gun on the Sunday match and Shotgun match on the Saturday match. Get 'em cleaned and lubed and loaded. You should need no more than ten or twelve rounds for your back up gun. Better to bring a box just in case though, huh?

Does anyone have a right handed holster that fits a Kel-Tec PF9 to loan me for Sunday's BUG side match? I have one on order but won't be in before Sunday.
