Rick1967 invited me to shoot USPSA with the Mobile Pistol Shooters Association this morning. I had a great time, but I'm going to have to shoot a few more matches to get used to the rule differences between USPSA and IDPA.

    Cool!
What are the biggest differences in your experience today?

Much faster. Not only shooting the stages stages, but there isn't much standing around. You're either shooting, getting ready to shoot, or pasting. There are 6 bays and we shot 5 stages today, each setup in a different bay. There were only 2 squads, but everything seemed to go faster.

Worth the extra drive, I assume by the USPSA website that's the closest one

    Thank you, sir!

It looks like MPSA is about 22 minutes closer to Pensacola than the USPSA matches in Daleville, which is the closest other one I know of.

how many mags were you using per stage? I know they have the single stack divisions but looks like I'd need another 3-6 magazines to make it through the stages.

You can use 10rnd mags in the single stack division, I believe. I only used 4 mags per stage (1 in the gun, 3 pulled from the belt).

i checked the rules on the internet. It says if you're using a mans bullet (jk if you're making above 165 PF) in single stack you can only load to 8. This looks like a lot of fun and you get a lot more shooting out of a match. I'll definitely be there next match.

    I saw a guy today shooing a 1911 w/ 10 round mags. Maybe he wasn't making 165 PF?

Awesome! Looks like so much fun. Definitely gonna have to try this. Looks like a little more planning of the reloads and you'll be set!

From what I get 1911s can shoot limited 10 with 10 rounds or single stack at 8 rounds and you can't download 10 round magazines.

Ah, he may have been shooting Limited 10.

I planned all my reloads fine, but missing too many steel targets and forgetting to reload as planned was what caused me trouble.

Those runs looked smooth! USPSA is definitely a blast. I discovered very quickly that if you want to hone your shooting skills (competitive or otherwise) it's the place to be. I will make note that Daleville's Tri-State Gun Club no longer holds USPSA matches. The USPSA Match Director recently built his own range and holds USPSA matches the second Sunday of every month at Dothan Gun Club in Midland City, AL. (http://www.dothangunclub.com) It's a beautiful facility complete with grass in every bay, really a nice place. Talon Range in Tallahassee also holds a USPSA match on the first Saturday of every month, and again, another top of the line range. (http://www.talontraininggroup.com/Talon-Range/Competition)

    I keep telling you people!

In Single Stack division, you can either shoot major (8 rds max) or minor (10 rds max. Usually 9mm).

USPSA is where its at. Shoot inside the fault lines and concentrate on your shooting. No rules/stage drama. Just pure shooting.

    Great first match TJ!
