I was just curious if anyone had ever heard of this being done? I have a 22 lr/410 single shot and was wanting something alittle more powerful for a backpacking gun and am trying to avoid buying a different rifle.
It can be done and has been done numerous times: Depending on the gun being converted, it can be relatively simple or really complicated; There are lots of problems, including the fact that the .22mag bore standard is .224" and the .22lr is (I think) .221". Also, the .22mag uses a different twist rate to stabilize the heavier bullet. The magnum uses a jacketed bullet while the standard .22 is either lead or plated. With a "plain Jane" .22 caliber, I can shoot every thing from Cb caps to subsonic to hypervelocity stuff, while with the .22mag, I'm locked into $10 to $15 per 50 round box.
