    anyone know how to remove rust from a blued surface?i have been thinking about using the steel wool but im not to sure about it.before i read afew post on the internet i got some oil(3 in 1) and a rag and wiped it down,tons of rust came off though.if any one has has any info on this subject please let me know

    Ronald, I just spoke to a gunsmith about this today, and he told me the best way to do it is to get some 0000 steel wool. Use a lot of oil while rubbing and be gentle. Do this for a little and then wipe it down with some more oil. Repeat until it is smooth. He warned that if you go too much, or too hard, it will leave a white spot, so go carefully on it.

    Just make sure the grade is 0000. That is the finest grade. Anything with less zeros will scratch it up. If Wallyworld doesn't have it any paint store or the lowes/depot will have it in the paint section.

    good advise but if I might add that if you soak the rust with WD40 for at least 24 hrs it will loosen and dissolve the rust so it will need less buffing with the steel wool

    i'll try it,i didnt really want to take my rifle all the way apart but it does seem like the wd40 might help..if i some how manage to strip my pretty blue finish,how does gcgf feel about black spray paint!?
