As small as our whitetail are here in this area, that shot group may not be good enough :lalala: may shoot over or under the deer

I will be hunting in Georgia. The deer are a bit bigger than in Florida. My brother is also putting up DEER CROSSING signs at 100yds from the stand so the deer will come out right there.

Started putting a coat of shellac on my new to me stock for my mak, being excited and not knowing how fast it sets up. Well found out i need to strip and recoat it again, cause it's just to blotchy for my liking.

if more hunters would only use this simple trick, many more deer would be taken....that's why the D.O.T. puts those signs up on highways, so they know where to cross at..

Mounted the Harris Bipod on the RARR. Range day tomorrow!

Did not get up and motivated early enough this morning, so mañana for the range. I did organize my owned gun pics, past and present, to ensure all were appropriately labeled and filed. Now, for another cup of coffee. I LOVE retirement!

    I did a thing:
    MV5nEdm.jpg

    but then this happened:

I actually bought it from MidwayUSA, not Mark 7, so I'm probably going to have to call both of them tomorrow to figure out the best way to fix the situation.

Well I've been playing ring around the rosy with MidwayUSA and Mark 7 for the past week. I would prefer that Midway give me a partial refund to cover the cost of the missing parts, but they will only offer a full refund/return. Unfortunately the autodrive was discounted so much that it would cost me an additional $1K to buy one of the currently available models. So far everyone at Mark 7 has been super friendly and helpful, but they can't seem to get all the necessary parts added to a custom cart for me to order. After going back and forth with them 3 times on Monday and 6 times yesterday, I'm hoping we can come to a resolution today.

Double checked my 3rd rifle to take deer hunting: Ruger American Ranch Rifle in 300 Blackout. Only had to do one click to the left to be 1 1/2" high at 100yd. I suspect it's my slowly changing vision due to cataracts. 2 months until my first cataract surgery. I imagine I'll have to resight all my scoped rifles or at least double check the sighting or at least refocus the ocular lens. If the first one needs resighting, I'll do every one. Eye doc said no restrictions on shooting after surgery.

I then broke clay pigeons at 100 and 200yd with the RARR Blackout. It does hit about 1" higher than calculated at 200yd, just as it always has. It's a proven performer and has taken multiple deer. It loves the Barnes 110gr black tip Blackout bullets.

Bought a slightly used (272 rounds fired) Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Gendel at a nice price. Got to shoot it before buying and see if it would play nice with a suppressor...it shot nice (1 1/4" or less groups at 100yd). The 1 1/4" group was 6 shots with Hornady factory 123gr SST ammo. Suppressor didn't enlarge the groups, but did shift them a couple inches to the left from no suppressor mounted. It will always be shot with a suppressor, so no problems with the shift. Ordered 6.5 Grendel dies, brass and bullets (Hornady 123gr SST). If all goes well, I might have it ready to take deer hunting also. it may seem silly, but I take multiple rifles deer hunting because I can't make up my mind what to take, lay them out on a spare bed at my brother's and rotate using a different one each time I walk to the hunting area.

My doctor said no shooting for a month,be careful = Eye doc said no restrictions on shooting after surgery.

I specifically asked about shooting and recoil. He said the only restriction was no jumping into a pond and opening my eyes under water. On the other hand when I had shoulder surgery, the orthopod restricted me to .223 or less kick for a month. I will take it EZ and shoot a 22 rimfire for a while. Thank you.

Got out to the range today to shoot a few and do rough sight in on the RARR. I love how the RARR shoots, and this rifle appears to balance better with a can than without. Easily got it on target with Hornady SST 123 grain loads, and was real surprise with the last rounds being the Midway ammo I scored from JJ.

Finally finished my "Ball'in-on-a-budget" build. About a 1 1/2 years ago, I read an article about ultra-lightweight AR15 builds (sub 5lbs). The prices on the parts was crazy expensive, so that kicked me in the nadds real quick. The good news was, I got my wife and two college age girls that are into couponing. They got me thinking that if I was patient and looked for coupon codes and sales, I could probably get away with a lightweight build on a strict buget. I set in stone a $500ish budget with a 4.5 lb weight limit. So a year and a half of time waiting on holiday sales and about 2 metric tons of spam emails with coupon codes later...I got a Fostech Lightweight Lower and Anderson Slick Side upper with a Faxon barrel weighing in at 4.79lbs (didn't hit the 4.5lb mark) just a little north of $500. All in all, really happy with the build.

Awesome build! I like to see people do "purpose built" setups and not just tacticool ones. Certainly a lot of patience on your part and Faxon barrels are great for the money. What optic are you looking at?

Really not looking at an optic right now. I have some Magpul MBUS sights on it now (1.2oz and 1.3 oz). I need to research a good optic that will not pull me above 5lbs total. Then when I figure that out, I gotta wait on a sale or some coupons...lol.

Worked up an accurate hunting load for my Ruger Predator 6.5 Grendel. All groups at 100yd.

First group was 4 shots with 3 in .235" and the "flyer" opening it to .595".

    DSCN3580.JPG

Second group was 5 shots with 4 in .205" and the "flyer" opening it to .39".

    DSCN3579.JPG

Hornady brass, CCI 400, 28.3gr H335, Hornady 123gr SST, 2.26-2.265" oal, 2420fps at 5' from chronograph, Ruger 22" American Predator, Crux Ark30 suppressor.

Will load up more of the load tomorrow and maybe get it sighted in for hunting. Scope was moved between the groups. Pretty darn good for my cataract eyes.
