After taking a RDS pistol ccw course with Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics, I understand the benefits of shooting/carrying with a RDS like the RMR. Throughout the class we discussed the potential issues of having a red dot pistol, which are similar to any electric optic pistol or rifle, but also looked at ways of preventing the issues and working thru the problems should they arise. Highly recommend his course by the way. Shooting with the dot takes practice and is certianly a learned skill like any other but the reward is fast and accurate shooting.
The issue of having your gun drawn while LEO shows up needs to be rehearsed before ever getting into or being forced into such a conflict, but that's another thread topic.
As far as local slide milling, I'm not sure of anyone who does it "in house", most are shipped to a few reputable smiths for cutting and finishing.
I know of two groups that do mill the slides. One is the SI group that did one for me some years ago and the other is a former SI employee that has set up shop elsewhere. Both do good work relative to milling slides. The former SI employee that does milling has his contract information on the Paragon Pride forum in case people here want another option other than SI. I just do not like dealing with gunsmithing work via mail and phone.
Relative to the responding LEOs and your gun being seen, even if you use the sul position to hide your pistol, you can get killed. My solution is to draw the gun only when forced to shoot and quickly re-holstering and get the heck away.
I regularly shoot red dot equipped target pistols. With an iron sighted co-witness pistol, for me a training course is not needed and I have had no problem with shooting with the RMR. Thing is my RMR died and I have not gotten around to getting reset up with a new one.

It is all fun and games until manufacturers evolve their product lines and make changes to the mounting dimensions...milling is permanent.

It will be interesting to see what ShotShow brings this year. I suspect more manufacturers will have optics ready pistols and other firearms. Red dots have pretty much taken over irons in the rifle world and pistols are following suit.

At the moment for many of the small RDS out there, most of them have different footprints or mounting dimensions. what I would like see is for them standardize on one or two foot prints.

I had a productive gun day yesterday. Started out with some dry fire, then loaded 1K rounds of minor 9mm.

Picked up a couple of vintage plinkers to get back into shape and onto the range. Got a Winchester model 250 lever action .22, and a Western Field model 860 bolt action .22 (Mossberg model 340K). The Winchester seems hardly fired internally, but has more small issues than the WF. WF bolt was real gummed up, but cleaning up well so far!

Winchester has birch stock and the WF/Mossberg has nice walnut with hardly a mark on it. Looking forward to shoot these old plinkers.

Shot the two vintage rifles. Winchester had one FTF, primer strike was present. Same round went off in the WF/Mossy, which shows better accuracy potential. Plan on scoping it to see how good it really can be.

Re-sighted in 2 more rifles. Once again, each scope needed ocular lens refocusing counterclockwise followed by 2 clicks of sight adjustment. My RARR Blackout went from a 1" rifle to under an inch. My next cataract surgery will be this Monday. Since no rain this coming weekend, I might try some more re-sighting then next week just shooting rimfires while the eye heals for a couple of weeks.

Sounds like the cataract surgery has went well. It's amazing what they do. I had Lasik done about two years ago, and my vision is still better than 20/20. When the day comes, I won't hesitate to get cataracts done.

3 more scopes re-sighted today. Pulled 7.62x39 bullets in the 300 Blackout Ruger American Ranch gave 2" 100yd groups and will be fine practice ammo and a lot less expensive than my Barnes Blackout hunting bullets.

Got to shoot Kendive's MP5SD. Now I'll admit I've never been a big HK fan (other than my PSP7 pistol), but his MP5SD was very fun to shoot. A bit of suppressor gas blow back was experienced when fired rapidly, but the lack of a "bang" was nice. Clack of the bolt and thump of the bullet hitting the backstop with NO bang sound was nice to experience. I felt the finish and workmanship on his MP5SD was first rate. Ken will probably come along and post a pic of it being fired.

Yes the HK MP5 SD is my favorite MP5 so far. The smoke is from me being OCD and putting probably a little too much Anti-Seize on the threads of the Suppressor. I have since cleaned that up and will try again.

Here is a Video of Daezee shooting the SD...

    .
We also had a little issue with the mags locking into the mag well and staying locked. So for the first time I took the mag release mechanism apart on an MP5. I fluffed and buffed the parts and made the spring a little stronger.

Mags are locking in perfect now!!!

A BIG thinks again to wildrider666 for all the books on the HK's they have a big help. I am now a professional on these things. :)

Some pics from shooting today and the MP5 SD...

Oh and also a Big Thanks for Daezee for helping with getting the Go Cart I acquired from a friend off the truck. We used the tractor but it was nice having an extra set of eyes watching things... Safety First :)

I'm glad those gun bunny pubs have been useful. They do better around carbon then dust. Lol

They have come in handy for my HK Collection...

A friend of mine gave me an original HK MP5 SD barrel brush. It's made to screw onto the suppressor and then you clean the ports on the barrel.

Not sure if you all know but the MP5 SD was designed to not require subsonic 9mm. It makes them subsonic. The Video of Daezee shooting the SD was with out of the box 115 gr Wolf Steel Case Ammo. And they were super duper quiet. :)

There will be some testing with different 9mm ammo with the SD and Chrono numbers to come. Give me time to do all this...

Anyway here is some pics of the HK Barrel Brush. Link >>> https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/MP5-SD-Barrel-Port-Brush-HK-German-5p137.htm

Ok headed out this morning to meet up with XD45 and then after stopped by the property to pick up the Go Cart I acquired and took it to a buddy to fix it up.

Anyway shot the MP5 SD with 124, 115, and Subs 147gr rounds and got some Chrono numbers. This was using the Lab Radar Chrono. I did not take pics nothing exciting to see anyway. I did 10 rounds each except the 147gr because I have heard it can jam the gun... This did not happen they fired prefect for me. Did 5 shots with them.

I had to use the extended external Microphone with the Lab Radar. This gun is way to quiet for the Lab Radar to pick up without. I also pretty much had the end of the suppressor right at the Mic :)

I will copy and paste the info should show up ok if not let me know...
