I can’t find name brand battery’s that cheap, but I’ve bought surefire brand for $1.50 each delivered to my door.

Started melting down into ingots range pick up bullets (had about a quart and a half I'd picked up and had only picked up the cast bullets figuring they'd be harder) preparatory to getting back into rifle bullet casting. Had about a half gallon container of wheel weighs someone had given me a while back, but found many steel and zinc ones. Also found that the stick-on lead ones appear to be just lead, as they were all very soft, so I melted them separately. Took wire cutters and would nip into each wheel weight to find the ones not lead based. I'd forgotten how smelly and smokey cleaning up salvaged lead could be.

Weather permitting, I hope to start rifle bullet casting for my 1889 Swiss next week. Figure 2 pounds of clip-on wheel weights or 2 pounds of remelted picked up cast bullets plus 1 pound of linotype ought to give me ~Lyman #2 alloy in hardness (the alloy I used to use for casting rifle bullets) (2 x 12 BNH + 1 x 22 BNH = 46/3 = 15.33 BNH). There are also other formulas one can use to get #2 alloy.

Picked up some needed parts to finish my varmiteer gun. Got a new bushnel 3x9 scope from dad's super pawn in pascagoula. ($50.00 !!!) Was going to get 3x9 ncstar "tactical" and thought better of it. This thing is super crisp. Korean made.
Picked up some 60gr hornady bullets too.

From the looks of that ice, cold doesn't come close to describing what the weather is like there. Think I'll stay here.

I stripped down a T/C Encore Prohunter frame and installed some Bellm parts.
Makes the opening and closing so much easier, the lockup tighter, and trigger pull smoother and lighter.
    Came out great. --- SAWMAN

Met a friend at the range. He brought his LBT bullet hardness tester so we could test various lead alloys for hardness. Some metals (pure lead and fresh linotype) were spot on what they are supposed to be, and some were harder than I had thought they'd be by 1-3 BNH points.

Cast my first batch of Lyman 314299 bullets (a .314" 200gr bullet), lubed/sized them, and loaded test loads for my M1889 Swiss. Designed for the 303 Brit and 7.54R Russian, the long, wider bullet helps fill up the big throat of the M1889 Swiss that was originally designed for an overbore size paper patched bullet. Previous tests in the 1889 with that bullet cast by a friend gave good results, so I was prompted to get back into rifle bullet casting. Got a good deal on some used equipment from SODAPOPMG and another friend, and was given some lead alloys to get me started by another couple of friends.

Prior to lubing and sizing, they are averaging 200.5gr, with an extreme spread of 200 - 201gr, which I felt was pretty good. For my initial casting, I used 1 part clip-on wheel weights, 1 part reclaimed cast bullets from a backstop, and 1 part linotype, which ought to give me about the hardness of Lyman #2 (15-16 BNH per my estimation). If those bullet shoot good, with future batches of alloy I'll cast a few and weigh them, and tweak the weight up or down to match the 200-201gr range using some solder or linotype or near pure lead...at least that's my plan to stretch the linotype I have on hand.

Did find that scrap wheel weights now-a-days contain a lot of steel and zinc weights instead of lead. It wasn't that way back 12+ years ago when I used to cast. About 1/4th to 1/3rd volume of wheel weights I was given were steel or zinc and thus unusable. The lead stick-on wheel weights are close to pure lead with a BNH of 7.5Had my tires rotated and balanced by Vannoy's Monday and talked to them. Was told steel and zinc is replacing lead wheel weights due to steel and zinc being cheaper to buy.

Been duck hunting pretty hard the last few weeks... with a little deer hunting mixed in. Also picked up a benelli m2 20g this week. It was nice to carry a 5.8lb shotgun this morning on a 2200yd walk to some flooded timber this morning.

Sorta gun related: Got an email from the retired Swiss Army officer that was issued the P49 pistol I now own. He's bid in a Swiss auction to try and get for me the correct officer specialty collar patches that he has on his uniform, the correct color of Swiss Air Force enlisted radio operator specialty uniform patch to go with my Air Force Radio Operator's K31, and a Driver's specialty sleeve patch to go with my Driver's K11. There's a bunch of other Swiss military patches in the group he bid on too. 40 total, and the bid is 15 Swiss Francs. 4 days left on the auction. Fingers crossed.

I've never seen the correct officer patches on U.S. auction sites, and the only time I saw the correct Air Force Radio Operator patch in the U.S. was in a group of 30 patches for $110, and the owner would not sell that patch separately.

12-24-2019 update: He's still the high (only) bidder at 15 francs.
