Got some starter ammo for the new to me 300 BO upper I just acquired. After reading some online, decided to set up some dedicated mags and mag carriers for the caliber to reduce any possible chance of confusing ammo. I am careful, but as someone recently said in another post I too am a just in case guy!
Spray Grit works for a good tactile feel even in the dark...also helps to have a different pattern on the mags...others make equivalent or better mags than MagPul.
I have not done anything gun-related for a while until today. I have had a complete lower built for several months and have not had a real clue as to how to proceed with it until this week. The other day, I ordered an Aero Precision BCG (phosphate, no logo) and it came today. I just ordered a PSA Freedom M4 type upper (no BCG or CH) and a Primary Arms Micro SLx Advanced Rotary Knob Microdot Red Dot Sight with a Primary Arms Absolute co-witness mount. This will more of an old school M4 type carbine.
I also have to source a 1911 barrel for a friend of mine who has a 1911A1 that his father carried in Korea. The current barrel is not good as it sat, uncleaned, for a long time and is no longer usable. He owes this situation to his son's negligence. If anyone has a line on a NOS 1911. 45ACP barrel for a decent price, let me know.
My Swiss Army officer friend won the Swiss Army patch "collection" and will be mailing them to me. I'll now have the absolute correct Army patches to go with my P49 pistol Army repair officer collar patch (3rd row from the top, 2nd patch from the left), K31 carbine Air Force Radio Operator collar patch (2nd row from the top, 5th patch from the right), and K11 carbine Driver (2nd row from the top, far left patch...driver specialty patch for the uniform sleeve). Based upon my searching, the Air Force radio operator patch and Army repair officer patches seem to be rare/scarce. He won at 15 CHF or about $15.27 U.S. Couldn't import the photo, but can post a link to see it: https://www.ricardo.ch/de/a/kragenabzeichen-schweizer-militaer-1091825898/
My Oberleutnant, First or Premier Lieutenant hat arrived today. It was his highest rank. Even the buttons have Swiss crosses.
Back home from the frozen wastes. Picked up some cool stuff while up north. Got 3 8 inch 12ga rifled inserts, 9mm,357 and 45 colt.
Picked up some parts too. The charging handle is for a cmmg .22 conversion, swap for a regular one if someone needs it. Poly, it's made so spents dont get caught in it.
ATL dosent have the chicken sandwich, what a drag!
Dug thru my xmas AR sale parts I ordered while I was away. Looking forward to tinkering around with them. Bought 3 bolts from PSA, they are really nice, and stamped with the carpenter specs. Staked well and the finish is top notch. No logos on the sides of them though, bummer.
Called SIG when the site search failed to produce any information on parts and accessories for my SIG 556XI Russian. I wanted to get a caliber change kit for it.
I was advised they stopped producing the model due to low sales. Parts are available for repair, but NOT for caliber change kits. That sucks as it was a prime reason for the purchase, although the main reason was it took all AK mags.
I told them I was done with SIG. Slightly used, rare, SIG 556 XI Russian to be on the market shortly!
Per the Sig Blogs: Sig is odd in that way. Even when rifles are in production, you can't buy spare springs, firing pins or misc parts. Sig doesn't trust customers troubleshooting or ability to R&R parts. Sig requires you send the rifle to them for troubleshooting and repair. Turnaround is pretty quick unless its a mass recall or as they sometimes call them "upgrades". Lol. Often the cost of the part you need is cheaper than your Ship/Ins costs but they wont sell proprietary sole source parts.
The lure of a caliber swap kit probably sold several guns. Sigs decision to hold back parts to "Fix" customers broken guns helps guys with dead guns and frustrates guys that wanted the caliber swap but it keep more oars in the water.
If a company refuses to send you the appropriate parts to fix your gun and their fuck up,then they do not have to admit any wrong doing as far as their Q&C process, quality of workmanship, quality of parts on Delivered gun, etc.
You complain . . they say send it in . . it is returned to you in a timely manner . . great customer service . . RIGHT ??
How many people send in a gun,and when returned it has a complete list if what was wrong with it plus action(s) taken to remedy the "problem" ?? --- SAWMAN
I think you two missed the mark, or at least MY mark in making the post.
The rifle sold 5 years ago at a premium price as a caliber flexible rifle. It could be changed from 5.56, to 7.62x39, or 300 BO, by buying barrels, receivers, and bolts as needed.
Within two years of introducing the model, they discontinued it and stopped making parts/pieces needed to support the mulit-caliber claim. They kept enough parts for repairs, but not for caliber changes.
As I remember, this was just before them launching into their Legion line. It must be a money maker, as you have to listen to almost an HOUR of Legion ads and others before talking to a rep!
Some of those ads were for short reset triggers for their pistols, that they would install for a cost...and the comments above kinda reflect that. At legion prices, why is the short reset trigger not a standard function?
