Went all around town looking for stuff to make some shotshells in 327 federal. Ended up getting most of it from amazon and ballistic products. Cant wait to load some. My wife almost stepped on a cottonmouth closing the gate yesterday. Time for her to learn how to shoot!
Did you get a chance to smoke the snake .

She let it move along so she could shut the gate. I'm sure that there are more, and their days are numbered haha. Worst thing is that I cant bring a pistol to work unless I park outside and take a long walk in. I might be looking for a bicycle soon

Beating snakes to death is also quite doable.

I dont like to get in stick range of cottonmouths. Fixed my cobray 410 derringer and patterned it. Seems good to about 15 ft. Patterned my rossi 410 pistol. Fist sized pattern at 15 ft, and I put 23 pellets in a coke can at over 50 ft.

Had another great day at our range. Finally got to try out my suppressor on my 6.5CM, was extremely surprised at how well it worked on it. Would still wear hearing protection if I was shooting it all day but a few shots was just fine.
Also brought out my 300blk and had some fun with subsonics, I only have fixed sights on it and popped a couple at the 500yd plate just to see the bullet drop, hit well below the target, a friend wanted to give it a shot and sent a single shot out to the 500, we sat for a moment looking for dirt to kick up...nothing, kind of figured it hit some sage brush so he motioned to hand it back to me, and then we hear the steel ring. Haha we couldn't believe it. First shot with a 8inch 300blk pistol and fixed Daniel Defense sights and 220gr subsonics and he hit a 20inch gong at 500yds. It was pretty cool. I got it after about 10 shots. I didn't even know how to gauge the hold over but it was at the top of a hill far away from the actual target. It was a lot of fun.

So I arrive at my club's range after my shooting buddies have set up cans to shoot at prior to my arrival. There's a lone can sorta away from the others that had not been shot. Sorta bragging, I said watch this. Using my open sight Winchester Model 62A I aim and fire offhand. The can is still upright. I said my bullet went right through it. Silence from my friends, but they are all looking at me. I said, I'll shoot it again. I fire and the can explodes...they had filled it with water and just sat there watching me in silence make a fool of my self, saying I'd hit it the first shot. Lots of laughter, including my own. You had to be there.

2nd item: I had posted about my new-to-me Swiss P49 (P210 SIG) service pistol with a troop tag inside the grip. I had sent a message to a lady that lived on the same street as the previous owner and had a maiden name matching. Today I got a message from the previous owner! The lady had given the message to him. He wrote Hallo (English translation = Hi) and that he'd send me more information in a day or two! He gave me his whole first name (it was somewhat abbreviated on the tag). I had explained that most Swiss soldiers were issued a carbine and was curious how he came to be issued a pistol and what his military job had been. Crossing my fingers I get more information. He referenced the pistol by serial number in his message.

The other day Daezee and I meet up at the property and did a little shooting. He brought his Swiss P49 (P210 SIG) and I brought an MP5 and the HK UMP.

    Great Fun.

The previous P49's owner sent me this, showing some scenery where he's visiting in the Swiss Alps. Also an aerial view of the town (Aeugst) he lives in.

Daezee and I at it again. We meet up at my property again. First we just chilled on the cabin porch and had some banana nut bread my wife made.

Then he helped replace and fix up a new 5 gallon bucket with a 2x4 and dirt. Kinda a home made steel target stand. Works really well just does not last forever.

The we setup to get some data to figure out BC on Daezee's .30 Frangible bullets.

    Data from test...

The rests of the BC (ballistic coefficient) story. As some of you know, I shoot a lot of M160 108gr 30 cal frangible bullets. Being as there is virtually no data published on those WWII bullets, much of our reloading/shooting them is trial and error. We'd previously established that often they like the 1300-1700fps range for accuracy, but some rifles do well with them in the 2000fps range (my FAL for example). Distance shooting has always been trial and error as to sight settings and bullet drop.

I had a great thought: Ken's labradar chronograph can measure down range velocity. Fire a series of shots with frangibles, average the muzzle velocity, average the down range velocity, use a ballistics program, enter the muzzle velocity, and keep entering various BC numbers until the calculated down range velocity equals the labradar measured velocity. Wa-La...the BC of the M160 frangible bullet. Now it's true the BC can vary by velocity, but the frangibles are normally shot in the 1300-1700fps range, so that ought to be close enough.

The load used in the Swiss K31 averaged 1505.61fps at the muzzle for 6 shots. 131' down range, the velocity averaged 1406.83fps. The resulting BC of those frangibles is G1 .265. Now I can plug that value in for longer shots and have a good idea of where the bullet will hit (still need to shoot to verify, but past experience with the JBM ballistics computer shows bullets hit right on or very close to the calculation).

The JBM (Trajectory) program has worked for me for a lot of years, inputting many different sets of data.
This is why I simply shoot at 50yds anymore, come home, input data, and print out a "cheat sheet" for my guns stock or pocket.
Now,being limited in different chamberings,I find that either ZERO at 50 or .5" inch low at 50 is about all I need. This, for 22-250,223,308,45-70,444Marlin,etc. Then 1.0" low for 500S&W rifle. Even my Glock 20 is sighted in for 1" low at 25yds.
I even used this program when shooting 1000yds with my 30-378Wby Mag.
JBM gets my vote. ---- SAWMAN

    Officer Juerg.jpg Tank PC61.jpg

Received emails and photos (his family, him as an officer, one of a vacation home, a recent photo of him, other photos, and links to his businesses that his sons now run) from the previous owner of my Swiss P49! He started out enlisted as a mechanic on the G13 tank, later a mechanic on the PZ61 tank, and finally as an officer over 25 enlisted in a M113 unit. His issue weapon was a rifle until he started officer school in which case he turned in the rifle and was issued the P49. He spent a total of 950 days active duty over a 20yr span. He left the Army at age 50 and kept his pistol.

The single stripe on his Kepi would indicate a 2nd Lt in this pic (or in German, a Leutnant). The other pic is the PZ61 in the field. Sorry, been unable to get the photo of him in upright orientation.

Just too cool all the info on a pistol you now own. Was it in combat and ever shot at that time?

Since the Swiss were neutral, I doubt it was in combat. I think I will ask about what year he was issued the pistol. I'm also gonna ask when the pistol left him was there a Tragriemen (shoulder strap that attaches to the holster), extra magazine, Putzzeug, Fettbüchse, and Segeltuchtasche (cleaning kit parts) with it...just curious...bet they were removed and sold separately along the way.

:) Probably over paid but supporting a local business is a good thing. I think they stock ALL the Hornady bullets. I bet they have 75 different types of powder (even 5 pound cans) They did have the CFE-Blk which I did not read up on so went with the h110. Lots and Lots of bullets!

It'd been years since I'd fired my M1903A1 National Match Springfield, so I took it out to see if I needed to resight it after my cataract surgery (I did need to tweak the sight setting). I'd forgotten how smooth the action is, and the trigger was just as superb as I remembered. I've only ever fired cast bullets or lead frangible bullets with mild loads in order to preserve the bore. I set the sights with the use of a PJ O'Hare sight micrometer. Makes sight settings extremely predictable and repeatable.

11+ years ago I went to the Pensacola Fairgrounds show. In a rack was the '03 being sold as a regular '03. The more I looked at it, the more it looked like a NM. I asked the seller if I could examine it in depth. Serial number etched on the bright bolt, the NM proof mark of a dot on the right receiver rail, serial number stamped on bottom of the stock, inside of receiver polished, Star gauge record marking on bbl under the hand guard (but Star gauge mark not on the muzzle), inspector's cartouche appropriate for the receiver and bbl. Throat gaged .30425 (used but lots of life left, and not needing replacement) and bright with no pitting. I wrote down the serial number and zipped home. There it was listed in one of my books by serial number as a NM! Zipped back to show and bought it for $500, a bargain. Later I got a copy of the govt sales record showing who it was sold to in 1930 as an A1 NM. I used to collect Springfields. Lost all but the NM and my M1922MII (they were in a safe away from the fire) in a house fire in 2007.

Bonus: A friend came across some spare Springfield parts I'd given him from when I won a unit level Springfield armorer spare parts kit in an auction (but lost in the fire) for which he no longer had a use. He gave the spares back to me this past Wednesday, consisting of striker, firing pin spring, extractor, ejector and pin to keep with my NM '03, all USGI of course.
