Update: the ammo manufacturer has concurred that this was an ammo malfunction, and have agreed to make me and my friend whole. I have edited their name out of the original post.
Moving forward, time to build a new rifle!
Wow, that’s a lot of recalled ammo!
As pictured in OP - this was 69 grain. Not addressed in any of those recalls.
For folks asking - there was no squib in the barrel. No modifications other than cosmetic. Barrel was clear other than the brass case from the failed round, which blew off cleanly...
Welllllll
What’s interesting is we had shot a few dozen rounds, and we had one FTE in a different AR15 with just a slightly bulged case at the base same place this one fully failed. Hindsight we should’ve stopped there and told FM to buy em back…
Last photo shows the majority of the brass still in the barrel, the rear of the case came out with the ejector and is on the bottom of pic. You can tell the case let go near 7 o’clock because it cracked the trunnion near the bottom and to the left, and completely blew the bottom of the bolt...
I have a S&W M&P sport that has had thousands of rounds through it (but not tens of thousands)
A friend gave me some remanufactured ammo, and I am fairly certain the case failed.
No one was severely injured, but I’m out a rifle, magazine, and can’t trust the ammo.
What would you do next?
EDIT...
Yea, seems that the regular posters are alright - its just the sale threads that are killing me. Ive wasted a lot of time on time wasters lately - years ago when I lived here before, I could buy/sell pretty much anything in a few days.
But yea shit economy does play a factor I guess.
