Would anyone be willing to take a look at my ar and tell me what's wrong? I'm thinking I need a new gas block but would like to have someone else look at it and see what's up. Sometime it wont cycle the next round.
    Thanks in advance

You found your problem, line that gas block up correctly and your problems will be gone.

There could be 1000 things that would make your gun not function properly.
As stated above,if your gas block is canted R or L,and if it is not pinned in place, loosten the botton screws and line it up properly.
You should only have to turn it a an EXTREMELY small amount. Fore and aft should be easily to detect it's proper position by the black marks. --- SAWMAN

This true, but I did this once already and tightened the screws. I'm thinking somehow either the gas blocks stripped (terminology I'm guessing) or the screws are backing out. It has turned my gas block from black to an orangeish color

I do believe it is .750 but I dont really remember sir. It was over 6 years ago that I bought it. Gas blocks should turn an orangeish color though, should they?

A picture of the area in question may help use with the color diagnoses. I can tell you from experience that the layers of skin you leave on the glowing barrel of a pig will appear green. Orange "color" normally dissipates with cooling.

"Old wives tale" re. the gas rings must be seperated around the bolt tail. Your gun will function flawless if you purposely line all three up.
During normal usage, the chances of them magically lining up is extremely doubtful. If they do,are they still lined up after the next shot ?? --- SAWMAN

Is this a bad time to ask if your AR is DI or of Piston Design?
Make and Model may be helpful for known discrepancies? JMHO.
Ammunition & Magazine queries may also apply to your feeding problems? JMHO.
Can I ask what made you just jump to the gas block? Inquiring minds might want to know?

I can get pictures sometime tomorrow. I am too worn out from installing a whole new front end today. However, I dont usually run it long enough to get the gas block glowing. I just noticed it after shooting 2 mags through it on sunday. Thank you for your response, info and also trying to help me with this matter.

Also check the bolt gas rings and in fact the gas key also.
Ok, I'm a newbie. The rings rotate freely are were not, but they are now, lined up. But what's the gas key? I just dont remember part names. Thank you for your response, info and also trying to help me with this matter.

Sawman, as stated above they were not but they are now. As always thank you for your response, info and also trying to help me with this

    -It is direct impingement,
-joe bob lower and unmarked upper. It was built for me by a friend, supposedly using aero precision l.p.k. and other a.p. parts
-usually 5.56 w.w.b., but sometimes .223 (ALWAYS cleaned after EVERY range trip!) And magpul mags (2nd gen no window) and 2 metal GI mags
-the only reason I jumped to the gas block conclusion is because as I got home the gas block was canted to one side. I loosened the screws and set it back in place but I'm just not trusting it right now. But thank you for your response, info and also trying to help me with this matter

I'm available in the afternoons this week. If I can't fix I'll sell you a new one
Thank you sir, but I can barely afford to pay attention right now (just got back to work this week after a 3 week no work due to covid19) much less a brand new at. I would love to build another one, but just cant afford it. I do appreciate the offer though and have been looking at your offers, you have damn good deals! Thank you for your response, info and also trying to help me with this matter.

Any of you ever shot your guns with only 2 or 1 or even NO gas rings ?? I HAVE.
Will it still shoot ?? I know . . I still have and hand full of the one piece spiral gas rings too. Took them off and reinstalled the 3 ring standard rings.
AND . . . didn't worry about lineing them up.

What WILL cause a gun to malfunction is it's cleanliness.
